This piece is an utter disgrace...very important facts conveniently left out to make Blanco look like a hero.

That assessment is not part of some political, postdisaster "blame game," but an insistence that accountability for preparing for and responding to a major U.S. disaster be placed squarely where it belongs: the federal government and its emergency-response program, FEMA.
And, so, with just a few words we learn that the editors of the Minneapolis Star have absolutely NO understanding of how a Federal Republic functions. They are simply politically motivated spinners who merit NO attention.

Another excerpt:
No state, no locality can take the lead in dealing with an emergency like Katrina. That's why FEMA was created. That is why Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco declared a state of emergency on Friday, Aug. 26, when Katrina was a Category 2 hurricane. It is why the Gulf Coast states requested help from the Pentagon that same day. It is why the next day, as Katrina was upgraded to Category 3, Blanco asked President Bush to declare a federal state of emergency in Louisiana. It was declared. Thus FEMA had full authority and responsibility from the White House "to identify, mobilize, and provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency."

This is not surprising given what we know about the left. They will not criticize any Black regardless of responsibility, they will not criticize a democrat. They ignore state and local government responsibilty in order to promote a huge centralized federal government.

Thank you....drafting a letter now!

Ya cannot SAVE IDIOTS via the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
Blanco wanted to THINK ABOUT IT 24 hours. Just like she is doing now with the Forced Evacuation of stay behinds.
Between Blanco and the Mayor, New Orleans fate was sealed.

Is there any part of this statement that is true?
Blanco still refuses to enforce the mayors mandatory evacuation order because she wants a report on how toxic the standing water is,at least as reported on Fox tonight.
How long before libs start blaming deaths from this on Bush or have they already?

I like it when they call the house trying to get me to buy a subscription to that paper and I tell them " you couldn't pay me enough to get a subscription to that liberal rag." Then before they hangup I tell them "quit calling here, maybe if they had a better paper sales would suffer so much" ***click*** :D

Yeah and these yahoos probably had the wisdom to endorse Mondale too.

And this is a surprise to you? I am sure that they subscribe to the idea that the federal government should be all powerful, but only as long as a liberal/socialist runs it.

Good. I'm just cutting and pasting every article and comment I can find on FR that details the difference between state and federal FEMA and I am going to bombard them all with that for the rest of the day. They might wonder why an Aussie would bother, but the reports of what the aussie tourists suffered has my back and my blood pressure up! Plus our TV news is showing the same Left biased rubbish and I'm sick of the Bush bashing.

Of all the Bush bashing Katrina editorials making the rounds, this one is perhaps the most outrageous. Just reading it made my blood boil. I think Michael Moore would write a more factual piece.
