Juan Delgado, an undocumented student who pays in-state tuition, tries to get his teacher's attention in his reading class at San Antonio College. 'I don't want to work in the sun for the rest of my life,' Delgado says.

Isn't this also aiding and abetting the commission of a felony (illegally entering the country)?

A complaint filed with the Department of Homeland Security charges Texas is violating a 1996 federal law that says if public colleges offer discounted rates to undocumented students, they must do the same for U.S. citizens from out of state. Students who live out of state typically pay significantly higher tuition than in-state students at public schools.

Incredible how many states (10 or so) brazenly flout this law

I have never heard of anyone being prosecuted. It's a felony to reenter the USA after being deported but I know of no prosecutions for this one either

Sent kids to a Texas community college. First year paid full tuition as we had just returned to Texas. Seems very wrong that we paid full tuition, illegals don't. If my kids did something wrong, I certainly never rewarded them. Why are we rewarding illegals? Am I nuts or are there colleges and universities in Mexico?

"Why are we rewarding illegals? "

We are not rewarding illegals, we are educating Texas residents in order for them to better contribute to our economy and society. We aren't doing it for "them" we are doing it for "us".

If people from Michigan and Illinois don't like it that's too bad. They can stay in Michigan and Illinois and let those states pay for their education.

Texas is rewarding illegal alien lawbreakers.

They are in the US illegally. It's not just people in Michigan and Illinois that don't like it. If you are here illegally you should not be able to reap the benefits of state citizenry.

Why not? That's just a vacuous bumpersticker type slogan for those unable to think for themselves.

Texas wants it's workforce to be as educated and productive as possible. It doesn't help us to educate Michigan kids.

Texas residents pay Texas taxes that are used to pay for Texas colleges. Michigan residents don't contribute one penny to the costs of our collages.

Well, thank you for implying I'm unable to think for myself. Notice that this newbie managed to refrain from belittling, but I guess length of time as a member doesn't translate into manners.

Such a smarmy comment from a pro-illegal immigration cheerleader. I guess since you don't have a single good argument to support your pro-illegal immigration position, all you can do is resort to the tactics of the left by calling names and ridiculing those who dare attack your precious illegal alien lawbreaker buddies.

Just in case you didn't already know, bayourod is Free Republic's resident pro-illegal immigration cheerleader. He has an extensive posting history of attacking other posters who dare to take an anti-illegal immigration position on these threads.

"Texas residents pay Texas taxes that are used to pay for Texas colleges"

no federal subsidies?......hardly......truth is, federal tax dollars are supporting many colleges and univesities.....and those federal dollars belong to me as well as you...

no one is asking that Texas citizens pay for out of staters.....but its unfathomable to give illegals tuition breaks and not other USA citizens.....
