The tone of your responses is one to be more concerned about Bush being blamed

Trust me, Bush can handle himself. And no, I do not care who gets blamed, but I do not appreciate those in LA and in the MSM who have made this a political issue and have tried to tar and feather Bush with this problem.

If the Gov and Mayor are incompetent and unable to deal with the problem in a timely manner, then I want the Feds to take over. The facts are clear, the locals have failed, I suggest the move out of the way.

On the other hand, you seem more concerned about the idea of "states rights" than helping those poor people in NO.

If you notice, her response was disgust that they are not being taken seriously. The LA officials will never stop phrasing their sentences in accusatory terms against the administration.

They are nothing but partisan hacks. Rats have put party before country for well over a decade now. Of course they will try to throw mud at Bush over this.

Let me bring to light this thread from LAST MONTH:

Memo to governor's office outlines partisan Internet site (Louisiana) (8/18/05)

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- A confidential memo addressed to Gov. Kathleen Blanco's communications chief outlined a strategy for developing an anonymous Web site that would espouse the politics and positions of Louisiana's top Democrats, according to copies of the four-page document circulated Thursday.

The proposed Web site would be used to counterbalance Republican messages becoming more organized and prevalent around Louisiana, according to the memo, which is addressed from John Copes to Bob Mann, a friend of Copes' and Blanco's communications director.

"Currently, Democrats have no comparable structure from which to return fire, or even to begin correcting the calumnies hurled against us daily," Copes says in the document, sent to The Associated Press via e-mail and posted on several conservative Web sites.

Mann, who confirmed that Copes wrote the memo, refused to comment on it, beyond saying that he often receives suggestions and advice from people. Copes also declined to talk about the four-page document...

"One thought is to try to masquerade as some sort of anonymous non-partisan do-gooder group. That just won't pass the smell test, especially after two or three months of consistently talking smack about Republicans and talking sweet about Democratic policy and never whacking a Democrat," Copes says. "The point is, we're going to have to come up with some kind of story about who's doing the site and why."

And to think of the flap that Talon News Agency caused.

" I was just watching Blanco standing next to President Bush while he was addressing the emergency responders. He's talking and she's shaking her head...doing a Hillary Clinton. "

The Democrats and the media have been circling the wagons to protect Blanco-because she is Hillary Clinton, writ small.
Most of the media refuses to acknowledge that Gov Blanco is the " Commander in Chief " at the state level of the Louisiana National Guard.
Blanco was the person directly responsible for alerting, mobilizing and deploying her National Guard units around her state, pre and post Katrina.
And she failed miserably.
Col Hunt was on O'R the other night and said he investigated and discovered that Blanco " couldn't pull the trigger " to deploy the LA National Guard troops.
Imagine another woman of the same caliber as Blanco-one Hillary Clinton, commanding the US military.
When you have stopped screaming....:-)
I wonder if Naugin has realized yet, that if the media and the Democrats can't pin everything on FEMA and George Bush- that he is going to take the fall for Blanco-
to protect Hillary in 08.
Blanco and Naugin and the rest of the elected and appointed Democrat failures in Louisiana who did not carry out their legally mandated responsibilities, should be the subjects of criminal probes .

I did the same thing twice. Don't expect anything more than a form letter response and told her that too.

I saw Bush speaking while Blanco stood to his side and below. You could have cut the tension with a butter knife.

Bush has his game face on, this is not politics to him, he is all about results. Nagin got his this AM when he ceded control to the military by removing the NO police and and firemen. Blanco will be next.

Absolutely correct. This situation is far to serious to leave idiots like Nagin and Blanco to handle. Move aside, children, the adults are now in charge.

"As of late Sunday night, FEMA officials told Blanco that the president was not planning a visit, "

She could have watched Fox News -- they were talking about it early Sunday, IIRC.

I do not agree with a former lawyer with no disaster relief experience running FEMA.

Except for the 3 or 4 hurricanes in Fla. last year. His problem is that he was accustomed to having an intelligent counterpart in Fla. whereas he has not had that luxury in LA.

Did anyone happen to see Senator Mary (I'm going to punch the President) Landreu there? She may have been, but I didn't spot her.

The cream will rise to the top....I think the stories of leaders with real character are starting to emerge. The thing is, they won't necessarily be the one you expect. They sure aren't the "elected" leaders. The competent ones may have been unknowns prior to this disaster. Some of them are in the stories on the good news threads...

I'm watching some of the religious leaders who are inspiring; also the doctor from BR who rushed to help in the superdome; the young man who commandered a bus to save people; the guard General Honore....these all have potential. If they chose not to help in the rebuilding, we can still be thankful that they were the angels amoung us!

Even if the "sovereign state" is causing the death of thousands? States rights mean nothing if you are dead.

I'm sorry but I feel the first responders at the local and state level screwed up big time. They didn't follow their emergency Management Plan.

http://www.loep.state.la.us/plans/EOPSupplement1b.pdf

That mayor could helped his own people. Scientist said New Orleans was vulnerable to Hurricanes. A little planning on the mayor's part could saved his own people from all the hardships and even death. If he planned ahead he would use those school buses (which are submerged now) to evacuate everyone from the danger zone before the Hurricane hit land. How much would it cost to hire the public work personnel who drive trucks to become bus drivers? He could start evacuating the elderly, handicapped and those who were vulunerable to higher ground by Saturday (August 27th). He could even use the tourist to help to push the disabled in wheelchairs to the busses and they would be evacuated too. How much would that cost?
And the super doom. That's his fault. I found it horrifying that a mayor allowed his own people to live in man made hell hole. You think he would have porta potties available just incase the plumbing goes out because in storms they do. Why didn't he have stockpiles of food, water and supplies on hand? After all the Super Doom was designated as a shelter. How much would it cost to bring those things in before the storm even started. You don't plan emergencies at the last minute they are planned ahead of time. How much would that cost? Things have to be set up at the local level and secure the safety of the towns people. Then system works upward. He is the one who can access the damages and the needs of his people. The Governor wouldn't know what the mayor needed unless he called her...like all roads are flooded bring heliocopters. Why did his police forces went AWOL? Without a police force the city went to choas. Probarly that hampered the recovery with drugged crazed armed punks. If he did simple things like thinking he wouldn't have his people in such a jam. Being a mayor of New Orleans is more than taking care of Mardi Gras!

Reminds me of a story...

The Ant and the Grasshopper

In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of working so hard?"

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."
"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; "we have plenty of food right now."

But the Ant went on its way and continued its work.

When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing, every day, corn from the stores they had collected in the summer.

Then the Grasshopper knew:

It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.

Most people I talk to are outraged. But not at Bush. They are outraged by the Mayor and Govenor. They are really outraged at the way a minority of NO citizens are acting (looting, rape, shooting) in the face of our countrys worst natural disaster. They are outraged that some minority leaders and the media are trying to turn this tragedy into a racial event.

All of us would agree that the response could have been better. We will learn from this, and do better the next time. However, there was not anyone doing anything intentionally to slow down this response. Any president would do what they could to save their citizens in the face of such a tragedy. Bush is doing all he can. Clinton would have been doing the same. It is NOT a partisan issue. It is an issue of trying to respond to the greatest natural disaster we have ever seen. A disaster spread across an area the size of Great Britian.

The wacko's on the left who think that Bush will be impeached over this, are not even close to being in touch with reality. Unless someone has an audio/video tape of Bush ordering the authorities to slow down the Katrina response because the majority of folks are African American, the dems are again dreaming. There are even blogs by folks on the left who really think Bush made this hurricane worse by injection some sort of "materials" into the eye wall before it can onshore. They have photos of "ion beams" being injected into the eye before landfall.

Just sad to see who partisan this country has become.

>>Don't forget, these people are her primary voting block. She and the rest of the Rats need these voters more than ever now that the cemeteries are under water.

They still have all the dead voters. The next election there should be quite a circus.
