"I'm glad you cleared that up! ;)"
In fact get rid of half of FEMA and Homeland and use the money to get back in there to clean up - anyone can rip down sheetrock and put it in a dumpster.
Nagin described ian an interview the AF1 meeting with Bush and Blanco as follows. Nagin told Bush and Blanco they need to get together to figure out the course of action. They went off, Bush came back told Nagin he offered Blanco two options. One would have brought in aid rght away, the one she choose delayed aid 24 hours.
As for FEMA and DHS,forget about it,they're here to stay.
NEVER....EVER trust your life to a liberal Democrat politician!!
Never forget that Mary Landriue's BROTHER is Lt. GOVERNOR!
"As for FEMA and DHS,forget about it,they're here to stay."\
If DHS did this little this slow with 3 days notice, I predict a grass roots demand for smaller govt that will rival the Reaganites - and about time.
School buses, sir, are PLENTIFUL!
MR. RUSSERT: But that's the point. Those who got out were people with SUVs and automobiles and air fares who could get out. Those who could not get out were the poor who rely on public buses to get out. Your Web site says that your department assumes primary responsibility for a national disaster. If you knew a hurricane 3 storm was coming, why weren't buses, trains, planes, cruise ships, trucks provided on Friday, Saturday, Sunday to evacuate people before the storm?
SEC'Y CHERTOFF: Tim, the way that emergency operations act under the law is the responsibility and the power, the authority, to order an evacuation rests with state and local officials. The federal government comes in and supports those officials. That's why Mike Brown got on TV on Saturday and he told people to start to get out of there.
Now, ultimately the resources that will get people who don't have cars and don't have the ability to remove themselves has to rest with the kinds of assets a city has--the city's buses, the city's transportation. You know, there will be plenty of time to go back over what the preparation has been with respect to infrastructure in New Orleans, with respect to transportation, with respect to evacuation. To confront a situation that, as you point out, people have been aware of for decades--this is not something that just came on the horizon recently.
Chertoff has a tin ear politically and he resorts to legalisms to explain the inexplicable. The American people don't care about bureaucratic turf battles. They want results. Ultimately, the federal government is responsible.
Blame first goes to Mayor nagin, then to Gov. Blanco and Lt. Governor Landrieu, then to Chertoff and Mike Brown......ALL of these people are in the WRONG jobs!!!
Agreed. We need leaders and managers in these positions.
"Chertoff has a tin ear politically and he resorts to legalisms to explain the inexplicable"
Plus they have and are stopping the Red Cross from coming into NO!!
What is that about - do they have something against Republicans running in 2008?
Say it loud,Ann!

I realize Louisiana has a government more akin to that of France - or Haiti - than that of the other states, but where exactly would you say that CNN or Fox fit in?
Not the executive branch, surely?
Judicial, perhaps?
</sarcasm>
Ok.....When we were kids my older brother
and I got in a fight, which I
started. Who got the immediate punishment?
He did, because I got to mom first.
I was helped a bit by a bloodied lip.
Only later after the the truth came out
did I get my punishment.
The mayor sure put on a great bit of
theatrics the other day. Didn't he?
Red cross publishes standards for shelters. Both for general population and special needs. Most cities have adopted these standards. I know that special needs shelters are suppose to have a back up power source. The reason is obvious. So I have to wonder what standards did N.O. use in selecting the Superdome as a special needs shelter?
I live in a State which is 2:1 registered Dems. The State did vote 'Red' in both recent Presidential elections for Bush. However, the press here is still Dem. There is absolutely no word here of the failure of the Gov of LA, or the mayor of N.O. to see that supplies were available when people were told to move to the convention center and to the Superdome.
Our press spews hatred for Bush saying the Fed response was at fault. The damage here is already done. No one knows the real story about the local inept early response in Louisiana.
Many borderline conservatives have bought in to MSM's slant already.
Mr. Chertoff said neither he nor Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown was told of the deteriorating situation in New Orleans until Thursday night.
States are reluctant to get the Federal government involved in emergencies, and especially this one. NO is the only solid blue area in the state, and VERY anti-Bush. The entire state government is anti-Bush. They chose to let people die rather than do ANYTHING that might bring attention to Bush.
At first, the press tried to pin these deaths on Bush, as usual, but as time goes on, the truth starts coming to the top. In the end, the state officials will have some explaining to do.
I don't remember the media finding the convention center until thursday. The first I remember it mentioned in FR was when it came up at the press conference.
I imagine that Chertoff and Brown were too busy doing their jobs to watch hours of coverage.
Of course, SOMEONE in government should have had time to do so, but then again maybe they were all on vacation.
