Build what is necessary, but make sure someone besides the politicos in NO and LA cannot get their fingers on 1 red cent. The process (including RFPs and contracting) and funds need to be managed by someone/group out of state and every penny needs to be accounted and justified for and no overruns - No Southern Big Digs!
Well, then the hurricane people that were sent to Houston will feel right at home...because what you described is exactly how Houston feels in the summer...blech!
LOL.
I'm not sure I'll listen at 10:00 but you MUST try and at least LOOK (with the mute button on) if only to see how BAD Hillary looks. Not that I'm being catty or anything :-)
Maybe Hitlery will hang her spikes "heels" on the Astrodome artificial turf and blow a knee.
I can't stand Greta Van Sustern, and I don't trust one report she files from Houston.
Thank you - as I said over there - "So what have we really learned then? Mainly, that the decades long liberal ideal of big brother government coming to rescue you IMMEDIATELY as soon as you get into a jam is, at best, naive, at worst, deadly. We have learned that there is really no substitute for personal responsibility and self reliance. But you wont hear that on the mainstream media because, well, thats red state talk. - is basically exactly what (believe it or not) Bill O'Reilly said tonight.
I will predict right now and bet my ranch that ambulance chasing scumbag lawyers are going to get richer over this debacle.
These creeps will be going after the deep pockets of Uncle Sam.
Thanks, maica. I'll look for it.
It's steamier in NO, but not by much. It rains more in NO, but there are more frog strangler storms in Houston.
Folks here in Utah think a half inch of rain is a lot. What do they know?
Yes. I've been to Houston many times. I have some family there. The main difference is that you guys have flooding because of concrete. There's actually someplace for the water to go afterward. But, you're right, I've never noticed much difference in climate...:-)
Please, don't put words in my mouth, publana. If my children were sitting in a crowd of 20k in the foulest sanitary and health conditions for the amount of time these folks were, I would want my child to recover before going anywhere. The most loving thing, imho, would be to allow these children a week to recover and to try and sleep. I wouldn't want my children going anywhere knowing the risk they could present to other people, as well as to their own selves. My goodness, their immune systems must be shot. GI problems and infections are being seen in many of the children. Do we want children with gastroenteritis in school?
Tobacco-esque combination Reparations/Katrina victims compensation fund with, of course, class action tort settlement on the mold claim with the customary 30% contingency fee.
Post 1620 will give you that press conference you want to hear!
I guess that's why our little shelter has had no problems. I don't think we rate for the celebrity tour. Besides, nobody I've talked to is mad at Bush. Our Ms. King...eldely lady in the wheelchair with the press on nails....was cheering at the NOPD shooting the thugs that shot at the civil engineers! Our evacuees aren't PC, apparantly! LOL
I haven't had a chance to watch much news today
But if they attacked .. then they are fair game
I said back when this was all starting with this storm the Dems did not want to go down this road on the attacks
I hope they all choke on their words
The libs will still hate WalMart.
Are you in NYC? I Iistened to Laura's 3 hour program this morning and her guest host was Peter Weisbach. Has she been doing 5 hours of live radio all this time?
This was poorly planned from the get-go. It's not like So Cal was hit by a Cat 4 hurricane, or NO was hit by 7.0 earthquake. Everyone knows that Louisiana, and the Gulf States, are likely to get nailed by a hurricane with Katrina's intensity.
So, why weren't generators in place? They knew the electricity would fail. They needed plenty of light to keep people safe from the thugs. They needed electricity to keep 25,000 people cool. Not to mention a system for sanitary facilities.
All those buses could have been utilized to get out the most vulnerable to PREPLANNED destinations.
The local and state officials won't wiggle out of this one. Are you reading Ellesu's posts about the millions of dollars FEMA sent LA, that can't quite be accounted for. This is why the Clintons and their operatives are out there. They're trying to cover up what amounts to grand theft and criminal neglect, if not outright manslaughter. I call it murder, but I'm just looking at what these bums can be charged with.
