"Until we're in the moment, we don't know how we'll react."
I personally am not a slave to my material goods. I personally would welcome a lift from a helicopter rescue team and put my faith in God and move forward to a possibly new chapter in my life. Heck, I've personally already experienced 2 new chapters in my life. Again, this is what "I" would do with "my" life in a Katrina type disaster scenario.
FEAR
Great idea!
I took a girl from Arkansas under my wings when I lived in Indiana with my folks. She was from a very poor and ignorant family. She got pregnant at age 17, and when my parents offered to help her get an adoptive family for her baby, her mother got really angry and said, "This is our family, our problem and we take care of our own." Only thing is -- the little baby boy suffered - poor, single mom, poor, ignorant family with no imagination and no future.
I believe you mistake my position.
The universal position that all people must evacuate the entire area fails to consider the present situation isn't much different for those who live deep inthe bayou. Most don't live on stilted homes and only within the last generation or two did the majority of people have air conditioning.
Those who were raised down in the bayou, can live off the land/swamp quite well.

Well, I'm glad you're not a "slave" - and you obviously don't understand the relationship between and artist and their work if it's a slam on me. I was also trying to explain the mentality of these people, but if you'd rather make it personal, feel free.
You also don't understand most people - their photographs and mementos and such are precious. You may be able to walk away, but many can't - especally if that's all they have. Or, for example, i'd be devestated if I lost the few things I have of my father's. People love their possessions for more than just wealth.
I put faith in God too that people will act cooly, calmly, and rationally during times of horror and massive stress, but my life has taught me most don't, and the ones you can count on, truly count on, are far and few between. Therefore, I have pity and compassion for those who break under stress, and don't condemn them for not doing what **I** would or theoretically would do. Instead, i try to help them, not judge them - as we all know, judging folks is someone else's job - someone a lot higher up than you or I.
So, while it's wonderful you're so perfect, these people are'nt, and some are asking why, and I tried to express my ideas of what they might be going through. Would you like to contribute positively, or just continue to be superior?
You need serious help - I hope you get it.

Oh honey, nice try at trying to twist my words around. Now go flame bait someone else.
Hang it up, poser. You're out of your league.
You are right, we are not even close to being in the same league.
Some research was done in US cities to test the level of "kindness to strangers." They did things like drop valuable stuff and walk away from it, to see if people would return it to them, and fall down pretending illness to see if people would try to help. Houston won.
They need to get the water out before March 1, 2006. March 1 is Ash Wednesday...how can they celebrate Mardi Gras in February unless the water is out by then?
I need to date Heidi Klum and Catherine Zeta Jones.
What does need have to do with it?
Right. "You can't always get what you need," as one anti-Bush British rock star once put it.
Terry Kerry will demand these people get generators
