I dare the RATS to dance on the graves from this disaster. Time and facts will show that everything humanly possible was done to save lives. We will also be reminded of the failure of the welfare society. It doesn't look good for demoRATS from where I am sitting.

I think you are right, and over the past twenty four hours I have even begun to review my early high concerns - that the truth and the facts wouldn't matter, in terms of the lasting public perception.

I now see how my own emotions - disgust over the failures, despondent - led me to abandon too much of my own powers of reason and rationality.

I think the facts will win out and the facts will mean there really is no saints, local, state or federal but Bush and Republicans will not take a greater share of "blame".

To realize why the "conservative" approach will work, and is working, is to just look at where the individual and corporate dollars and individual and corporate relief efforts are coming from, in the main - red state conservatives.

Anecdotal - a baptist church in Houston held a volunteer sign-up event, to recruit volunteers for Katrina relief efforts in and out of Texas - they had 10,000 people show up.

Anecdotal - millionare Christian businessman from San Diego spends 1/4 million in two days renting a 727 to fly relief material in and homeless NO residents out, getting a freind at the FAA to over-ride the LA Governor to let him land at the NO airport - and by last Friday he was leasing six jets for his private operation.

A news and Lexis-Nexis search will get you hundreds more like this.

While Bill Gates writes a check?

To use the word conservative it must be defined, these days..
What do you mean.. "for the status quo?"...
or RADICAL departure From! the status quo?..

America is not longer tethered to the Constitution.. like it once was.. America IS/has become a loose cannon..

This hurricane was too large for anybody but the locals to provide any assistance for minimum 72 hours. I lived through hurricane hugo, it looked like the city was carpet bombed, streets were impassable, huge trees were laying on the ground or on top of houses everywhere. Power lines were snapped and laying everywhere. It took 8 days just to get electricity back with the help of every power company on the east coast and the mid west.

The lesson I learned was you are on your own for the first 3-4 days. I don't recall anyone blaming anyone else, we all realized that the first three days was just about clearing the streets and homes of the trees that fell. It wasn't city workers out there clearing trees it was the people who lived in the neighborhoods or entrepreneurs with chainsaws. People were more than willing to pay a guy $3-400 to cut up a tree so they could get their car out of the garage.
