There is another with categories listed per location, but this will do. As you noted, Friday, Cat 2, ALL forecasts called for strengthening and all but two of the computer simulations scheduled a NO hit.

Mayor waited until when? to call for the evac and only AFTER the President called him. Then, according to them, there was no more transportation, except for all the buses that have been noted on this thread. The levees were all designed for a Cat 3 hit, no more.

SO, when he ordered the evacuation he has a CAT 5 hurricane making a beeline for his city, and he had 300+ buses at his disposal and he did not use them!

Yup.

Again, it easy to say what should have been done, but if we evacuated NO every time it was in the path of a Cat 2 or Cat 3 storm (that may strengthen), it would probably have to be done once a year.

Even when the models showed a NO hit, the strike probability was about 50%.

And if they had to evac once a year for a while, maybe they'd get around to fixing the frickin' levees so that NO would be safe...

Perhaps if people where taught how to evacuate, they wouldn't have pilled into the bowl.

I believe those buses only have a tank capacity to get them about 100 miles down the road

Well they should get a little farther down the road since most school buses have 60 gallon gas tanks and some even have two. At 5 mpg that should get you at least 300 miles.

There is far more than that at issue here. We live on the coast, 10-15 miles from the closest bay. We start preparing for hurricane season in JUNE. Freezing gallon milk jugs that have a two-fold purpose. They keep the rest of the food frozen after the power goes out and can supply water when melted. Batteries, candles, flashlights, charcoal, food, cars filled, trees trimmed, grass mowed...

These people did nothing and waited for the government to supply all their needs, the government failed them. NOT the fed, their own city and state.

The probability charts, while not infallible, get better EVERY time they are used!
