Kobe Bryant said he'd give all the hickeys he can. No charge.

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Deion Sanders challenged all professional athletes to donate at least $1,000 apiece through payroll deductions to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. $1,000 for multi-millionaires?!? How generous. But to be fair I suspect many are giving much more than that without old nine-toed having to tell them.

yeah but when you look at it, very few are actually multi-millionaires...
$1,000 isn't much for Deion, but it would be for a rookie fresh out of college for a journeyman lineman or something....
any little bit counts at this point.

Dunn, from the Falcons, asked for all players to donate $5,000 last night. I saw it on Sports Center.

yeah...
at this point ANYTHING is a good thing.
If they all donated 1000, that would be $1.696 million (32 teams x 53 players x $1000). Quite a big chunk.

It's nice to see anyone donate, but when your talking about guys that make 100 million over a contract to play games,(Shaq & Alex Hernandez to name a few) a million or so is not enough to pay for Mr T's gold chains I'm afraid.

So what they are supposed give up half their contract?
a million dollars will go a long way. Besides You are thinking Alex Rodriguez, not Alex Hernandez, whom I have never heard of.
They donate what they think they are capable of. I won't judge them. I am happy they are donated to the cause and to the effort. I am happy that I judged their characters correctly.
Besides when you bring how much they make into this, it REALLY sounds quasi-socialist.

Alot of players don't want the attention that donations sometimes bring them (i.e. a few of them have a sense of humility and aren't glory hogs), I'm sure alot of them will donate and not make it public.
I know A-Rod caught some heat when it came out that he made political donations to republicans.

The key word here is "at least" $1,000, would you propose a higher or lower minimum?

He is actually asking for more then a $1,000, the key word he used was "at least".

"...$1,000 isn't much for Deion, but it would be for a rookie fresh out of college for a journeyman lineman or something...."
Agreed! New Headline:
Deion Sanders calls on athletes to give $1000 each to relief effort (except those athletes who make it to the top of their sport based on showboating, "i don't care if "team" lacks an "i" , attention grabbing whore behavior, Y'all can give a million...)
That might be too long for a headline though, huh?
To: socal_parrot
not sure about that, however, he prides himself on his "mink-fedora hat" collection.... he has damn near 500 of 'em...
