I imagine that some didn't have an ax, some at the last minute couldn't get to their ax, some didn't anticipate, and some never got word.

And I pray for them all.

Well then, at least it wasn't a total loss for you.

You've cheered me up a bit too.

I don't mind helping people, in fact I like it.

But I'm not exactly the guy who's going to spend very long trying to help when the recipient is shooting, be it bullets or barbs, at me.

I'm going to sign off for the night, be back tomorrow. It looks like the evac is moving along well, but I wish the numbers being reported at the shelters was rising faster. Hopefully the media is 48 hours behind on that too.

Have a good one.

I agree...maybe this will eventually change some peoples lives for the better if they can settle into small town life...Right now the scope of it is just...surreal. Prayers for all of those poor people in NO, and for our country...may kindness and love prevail.
On that note, goodnight all...

This really has me PO'd. Listening to the MSM, you could swear that the only damage is to New Orleans and a small percentage of southern Mississippi. The damage to the periphery is extreme and vast. Major efforts requiring tons of hard work above and beyond normal like repairing the train tracks and roads, getting the power back on, and water systems working again go completely unnoticed by the MSM. It will probably take years to get the worst areas of NO livable.

Prediction;

Due to political incompetence, completely destroyed areas of Mississippi will be be rebuilt and back to "normal" while many somewhat damaged areas of New Orleans will still be uninhabitable.

Haven't left yet, but I did sit in a B52 pilot seat at an aircraft museum on the way into Chicago a couple years ago. My son was with me. He's now at the AirForce language school in Monterey studying Dari. He's soon to graduate and go to the B52 base in Montana.

Interesting lines from another thread:

"Dressed in a white T-shirt and slacks, his bald head beaded with sweat, Nagin told reporters at the hotel that Bush was "very attentive, very serious, very determined to make sure this city gets what it needs."

He said Bush acknowledged that he too was dissatisfied with the progress of assistance to the beleaguered city.

He said he told Bush that if he and Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco did not "get on the same page as far as chain of command is concerned," New Orleans would continue to slide into anarchy."

Wasn't he the classic poverty pimp, trying to shoehorn himself into this tragedy somehow to keep his gravy train going, without, obviously, any real concern for the victims of this disaster at all? BOR chewed him up pretty well.
