Call me cold and uncaring but it's the logical thing to do. In the time it takes to transport 1 or 2 infirm, you may be able to evacuate 3X as many healthy people. How do we do it? Volume baby, volume!
To: Peach
This is obscene. I do not understand how healthy people could be airlifted before those with life threatening illnesses. Healthy patients? How is the reporter qualified to determine who is healthy? Anyway, this may be a reverse triage going on in the evacuation. Those who can tolerate the trip may be taken first.

Anyone seen Anderson Cooper? Did CNN yank him for not making nicey with Mary Landrieu? Probably.

I like when he calls them "choppers" instead of helecopters or rotary wings.

CNN website headline:
International Energy Agency agrees to provide 60 million barrels of fuel reserves to U.S. Details soon.
MSNBC website headline:
Help arriving. Military convoy enters ravaged New Orleans.
Bush tours battered region.
Finally things looking up today. Thank God.

I wonder if anyone will dare to suggest something similar in this situation. I wonder if anyone else would have the nerve to say, "Bad idea." Someone will suggest it I'm sure. Sort of a disaster relief/reparations type thing. They all deserve help in this situation but that's not gonna fly.

To: mystery-ak
Ah ha, I thought so. Many folks just assume their policy covers flooding.
To: daybreakcoming
they're almost officially "insurgents"
To: popdonnelly; All
Mary Landrieu? You must mean Suzy Creamcheese!
To: steveegg
Yep. Of course, the fact that there is a single source for flood insurance isn't helpful. Hell! Most of the poor homeowners didn't have any homeowners insurance at all. Which is probably why a lot of them stayed. If I didn't have any homeowners insurance, I might have stayed too.
To: DocRock
I remember you saying that Saturday. They should have made you Govenor and 1,000's may not have died. The Gov and Mayor didn't want to be sued or voted out because they made people leave. They may have known the looting that would happen if they tried to make the "people" go. They need to be held accountable for putting things before lives and safety.

Anyone seen Anderson Cooper? Did CNN yank him for not making nicey with Mary Landrieu? He'll be back tonight - he made up for the Miss Mary faux pas by ripping into the Federal response last night.

To: Peach
Well, when you unplug their respirator, they die. They need to be transported by ground units, which is what the snipers were trying to get to get out of the city with their loot.
