Things will start happening very fast.

I know. I can see it happening now. But that damned governor and mayor took no action except to dump everyone at the Super Dome and people had no information at all because there was no local response of any kind. Praise God, though. At least massive help is on the way for this massive tragedy.

"No one is telling the people where to go for help."

I thought I heard NO mayor & AM radio station was telling all to go to the Dome ??

Haven't we all been told to keep battery operated radio's in 'emergency kits' ??

You must be a fantastic organizer. I think they could use you in NO to run something.

Thanks again.

Sheila Dixon of New Orleans weeps as she clutches her 18-month-old daughter Emily as they sit on the side of Interstate-10 after being airlifted out of flood besieged New Orleans.

Louisiana border is shut down at the Mississippi state line. No gas there. Closed for the next 12-24 hours since Baton Rouge already has 300,000 refugees and can't handle any more. They will let through people on a case by case basis but if you aren't in a border town, forget it.

From what I follow on the FR threads they are already starting to unload whatever on the top of the SD.

Looks like someone with fuzzy ones has finally taken command and is barking orders.

Do you consider "food" to be "loot"? I don't. I don't consider consumable food or drink to be loot. If food isn't consumed, it's lost anyway. Sustaining human life must be foremost.

Looting is taking stuff you don't need. Stuff that will not go bad. Loot is made up of objects which have value. Loot is stuff you "gather up" to show your wealth, or put away to barter with. Of course, loot can be money.

Why aren't they there on the scene with their sleeves rolled up and HELPING like Jeb Bush in Florida does?

I guess the looters too busy to 'roll up their sleeves' & help also.

Bush. Nobody locally in Louisiana has done anything.

I have figures in my possession that indicate a total maximum death toll of 410,000 Americans and a minimum death toll of 41,000 Americans.

Like many, I have not read every word but.. Prior to this event, the largest number of Americans to die on our soil in a single day was ~23,000 at Antietam during the civil war. I fear we have witnessed history being re-written.

By now, you are hopefully beginning to understand the error in trying to fix blame, at least this early.

Excellent post. I agree now is not the time for recrimination and finger pointing. Now's the time for us all to try to figure out what we can do to help.

My coworker just suggested we start collecting donations at work and try to get our employer to match. I think that's a very good idea.

I hope you are not making excuses for the pitifully poor management in New Orleans right now.

The Louisiana SPCA did a better job with their dependents than these idiots are doing with human beings.

There are always options available when things are hard. It takes someone with a working brain to be able to look at them and put them into use. The governor of Louisiana left hers somewhere and hasn't yet found it, and the mayor has been too busy being on talk shows it seems.

My sympathies and prayers are with the victims of incredible stupidity mistakenly being called leadership in Louisiana.

I began to suspect the governer and mayor had no plan when I say the cars heading out of the city on only one side of the interstate!?!? No plan, whatsoever, for the shut-ins and those without the means to drive out of the city. Anderson Cooper showed a picture of, at least 25 school buses, parked together and underwater. Imagine if the mayor had a plan for the school and city buses to line up on canal street or I-10 or at the SuperDome to take those people to the AstroDome BEFORE the storm hit??? I am so angry at this mayor - it's everybody else's fault according to him!!!
