"We've been through everything. But I ain't never seen anything like this in my life."

It was a CAT 5 Hurricane, 400 miles wide, 48hrs before it hit.

It was pretty clear the gulf coast would be annihilated, well before it happened.

I am thankful that we live in a country full of opportunity with folks who are willing to lend a hand and who expect nothing in return.

If they had somehow made arrangements for people's dogs to be cared for, less would be on rooftops awaiting rescue.

That occurred to me too. I completely agree. I would not leave MY pets behind, no way.

"Why did they stay in their home? "Shelters don't accept animals," Parfait said."

Why the hell not? What are people with pets supposed to do?

This w/b the news for tomorrow.

Sadly, it won't be the news tomorrow. The media attitude is pretty much that the deaths of a few thousand gap-toothed rednecks who voted for Bush in some pisswater backwoods southern town isn't really important, until some Dim uses them to launch a fresh assault on the Bush administration.

The media will instead be bringing us the real "important" news, like "Mother" Sheehan's latest ravings.

When I was young, we had civilian defense units. Perhaps it's time to go back to that.

The FOXNews website has provided a link on its "How To Help" page to the Louisiana SPCA. According to a press release on that organization's website, they began moving their sheltered animals on Saturday. Thank goodness they used good judgement. They do accept online donations. Thanks to FOXNews for realizing that there are folks such as us who are also concerned about the animals.

That's a great idea, thank you. Knowing their animals are safe goes a long way to the peace of mind of some humans.

If they have money and a car to drive their pets to a clinic they could have left the area entirely with their pets. Is your clinic hurricane proof? Why take your pet to a clinic thats safe and then go back into harms way yourself? Why haven't they picked up their pets yet? Are they dead? Where is your clinic located?

The State Veterinarian in Mississippi on their website lists all of the hotels in the entire state of Mississippi that accept animals. My clinic is a state of the art $1 million building in NE Ms built to withstand heavy wind. The owners are staying with friends and their dogs and cats are not compatible with the friends' dogs. The ones in the hotels keep their animals with them during the day and bring them back here at night. People were warned to evacuate two days prior to landfall and these folks up here in Northern Mississippi had the intelligence and foresight to do what they must to avoid a Cat 4-5 hurricane. I don't believe anyone but just a few did not have the ability to evacuate...they just didn't heed the warnings and were ignorant of history. This storm was bigger than Camille and those that rode out Camille were caught by the ferocity of Katrina. Mississippians are doing what they must to help our brethren on the Gulf Coast. We are a small population state and everyone here knows someone in Biloxi, Moss Point, Pascagoula, Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian, Waveland, Ocean Springs, and Point Fontebleu.
