I worry for my niece's homes, and the homes of my sil's mother, and sibs. And the home of one of my best friends....She's had a horrid year already, anyway.
I saw that too, but now its back to Katrina.
I'm wondering how Natchez, MS is doing. Hope all of those beautiful antebellum homes are okay.
I was thinking of going to the pilgrimage there in the spring.
As a generalization, the north half of NO near the lake is below sea level. The south part of NO nearer the river is above sea level. So I would assume that about half the city is underwater, with the depth depending on how far below sea level it is.
Charleston solved the looting problem by getting the word out that looters would be shot, not arrested.
thanks..they are pretty tough old birds, hopefully ok...
Phyllis Wagner-Bolger and more than a dozen members of her family spent the night at Ursuline Academy on State Street, where her brother, Steve Wagner, is facility manager.
Monday morning, there was about a foot of water on the streets, she said. There isnt one big tree left. All of these cypress and oak trees on the outer perimeter, theyre all down. We lost power at 10 til 5 in the morning, and it was between 3 and 4 a.m. that we started hearing all the trees fall.
Part of the roof also was blown off, and the skylight in a storage room shattered, Wagner-Bolger said.
You look out there, and all this stuff is toppled. You know whats still standing? The statue of Jesus with the outstretched arms. No matter what you believe, its pretty amazing, said Wagner-Bolgers sister, Doris Bastiansen.

I'm not talking about posts, I'm talking about news reports. If you want to cherry pick individual posts, you can easily complain about ANYTHING.
Do you think the reporting the Weather Channel was doing yesterday was "overhyped"?
People trapped in a house...guerney road

Here is 11:40 CST Warning:
* AT 1137 AM CDT...WIDESPREAD FLOODING WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE
PARISHES ALONG THE SOUTH SHORE OF LAKE PONCHARTRAIN IN THE GREATER
NEW ORLEANS AREA...AS WELL AS IN PORTIONS OF PLAQUEMINES PARISH.
THIS CONTINUES TO BE AN EXTREMELY LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. THOSE
SEEKING REFUGE IN ATTICS AND ROOF-TOPS ARE STRONGLY URGED TO TAKE
THE NECESSARY TOOLS FOR SURVIVAL. FOR EXAMPLE...THOSE GOING INTO
ATTICS SHOULD TRY TO TAKE AN AXE OR HATCHET WITH THEM SO THEY CAN
CUT THEIR WAY ONTO THE ROOF TO AVOID DROWNING SHOULD RISING FLOOD
WATERS CONTINUE TO RISE INTO THE ATTIC.
RESCUE MAY NOT COME UNTIL THE STRONG WINDS ABATE AS DANGEROUS
HURRICANE KATRINA MOVES NORTHEAST OF THE AREA.
Hubby came home from Germany on a huge battleship and the waves overtook the ship several times. They survived but all 'wished' they were dead during the storm and toilets backed up and people were puking all over the place. He never forgot it. So, ships are made for this kind of thing.
of course it is overhyped...it is the MSM!
Oh well...you weren't invited to dinner anyway.
Best Western on Airline Highway (Airport) windows are gone and part of the roof is in the pool.
Floodwaters surround a car in uptown New Orleans early Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 as high winds and rain batter the Louisiana coast as Hurricane Katrina makes landfall.
Things look dicey uptown.
No matter what the thread, it's always the same types.
They didn't expect flooding!
New Orleans area
Breaking News:A possible breach in the 17th Street pump was announced by New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin on WBRZ-Channel 2 around 11:20 a.m. Nagin said he had no confirmation about it and the information he has is sketchy and from police officers on the scene. Water was apparently flowing into both Jefferson and Orleans parishes. More to come.
