Commercial airlines cancelling passenger flights already out of NO (Armstrong Airport), according to WWL-TV. Getting the planes out of the way of the storm. Danger to anyone staying at terminal due to window glass shattering.
Yup you're right!
I'm in Lafayette and scared to death. Can't believe people are staying in N.O. I'm even thinking about boarding up and leaving.
Wonder what Ewing Oil is doing?
Hi all--what did I miss? Did I just hear 910mb?
Wow.
I live in the Memphis area and we already have a flood alert for Monday night, It looks like we are going to get a lot of rain from the storm. It may not be any too safe going north.
Yes. You just heard 910mb.
The weatherman on WWL-TV was talking about the fire ants that "float as a mat on top of the water" and seek high ground, right along with you...
Thanks for the info. Wow. I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around the scale of this thing.
This is bad :(
Are you able to get 870 AM? You can hear the fear in the voices of the parish officials. Louisiana will never be the same....
Actually, I think the hardest thing about deciding to leave is knowing how difficult it will be to return after the storm.
In Dennis, I put off leaving until the last possible moment...the first bands were moving in as I headed north over the Dolly Parton Bridge. He chased me all the way to B'ham!
Fortunately, Dennis dissipated. But it took two days to get back home: Traffic was awful and no gas for a hundred miles.
HOLY COW! Local station just reported we should expect Monday winds of 120 mph IN MOBILE! I hate to even think of being on the westward side of THAT.
Having been bitten by fire ants before, that's not a comforting though! ((shuddder))
Ants, snakes. Sewage. Chemicals. Debris.
what is wind speed?
Radio reported 170 at flight level
If I was living in a mobile home, I would be out of there long time. These storms (like tornadoes) seemt to have a natural affinity for mobile homes.
WWL said 155-165 mph. He's waiting for an update by the top of the hour.
