Ah man, just what we don't need. For whatever reason, the greater reflectivity seems to be on the left side, too.

Wow, you're right. If it had more time before landfall, it could really get itself squared away. Here the microwave view from early this am and now.

This looks like it will be more of a flooding storm than a wind storm. I'm not sure why it's not strengthening more, which is good. But it's moving so slow that it's going to dump torrential rains.

I'm in Pinellas and we've been having regular afternoon thunderstorms. One of our dogs is so afraid of the thunder that she will "hold it" forever, rather than venture outside if there is thunder (she'll go outside in pouring rain, as long as there is no thunder.)

Of course that means, she'll wake somebody up in the middle of the night to let her out once the thunders past.

I discovered a few weeks ago that if I ask her if she wants to go on the leash (usually we just let them into the yard and they'll stay in our yard), she'll run for her leash, and if I put it on her and walk outside with her, she doesn't mind the thunder.

Go figure...the dog definitely needs psychotherapy, LOL.

How many "artists" will blame GWBush for not signing kyoto?

I would suggest a drinking game but given the general illiteracy of the MTV crowd (and my lack of desire to see pooftas on parade) people would be intoxicated after the first 10 minutes.

That's what I'm thinking too.

My brother lives in Fort Myers. I called him this morning. He's been thru worse ones than this.

But he's still bringing in the lawn furniture. He's gonna wait a few more hours before he decides whether he's gonna board up or not.

He's got plenty of food, water, a generator and a pistol. He's as ready as one, I guess.

Ha! My ridgeback has a 'safe room' in our bedroom closet. The rows of clothes dampen all the sound, so when a thunderstorm crops up, we throw her dog bed/pillow in there and she holes up.

I got the west side of my house shuttered, the side we'll get winds from here in So Dade. Can't decide whether to do any more of them or not, no one else in the neighborhood is taking this very seriesly. Wife went to the grocery store to get some extra water, candy and a few things, reported that it wasn't very crowded. Same for Home Depot, forget why she went there.

I'm guardedly optimistic.

I'm not sure what you can do to mitigate any flooding, which might be the biggest problem. A strong tropical storm or a weak hurricane generally isn't that big of a deal if you do the normal things to secure loose items, etc. I doubt I'm telling you anything you don't already know.

The longer it's parked over you, though, the higher the chances of losing power and more damage could be expected.

You probably want to make sure your vehicles are full of gas, and you might spend a few dollars to fill some coolers with ice. If you don't lose power, most of the ice will go to waste, but you'll look like a hero if power is lost.

Some interesting developments in the models....

The new UKMET and GFDL just out have the second landfall in the exact same place, the Mississippi/Alabama border, after a long swing over the GOM.

Vehicles are full, plus have a couple cans of gas for the generator, so I should be able to keep my refrigeration going for awhile if we lose power, as seems likely. I'm not quite as ready for this as I'd like to be in that I don't have a way to hook up the generator to the house circuit. The little 5600 watt gen can't handle the whole house, but it's no problem to open every breaker except the couple in use.

You still have plenty of time to stock your fridge with beer.

This radar image makes it look like her eye is not much more than 35 or so nautical miles off Ft. Liquordale. I must not be reading it right, but that's what I see.

Nah, he's still recovering from the lashing he took from Hurricane Buckhead...

LOL Mine can hold it for days if the alternative is going out in a t-storm. Likey yours, rain is not a problem. Just if there is thunder involved. Common problem with goldens, not sure about other breeds. Where does yours like to hide? Mine generally hides under the bed, but one day I saw just the rear end of a dog sticking out of the closet. You guessed it, the rest of her was hiding inside! Silly girl!

That looks like a good call, since it's only 45 miles from Lauderdale to W. Palm, is it still moving around 5-6 knots?
