And seems to love FDR. Can't remember any other conservative I've seen around here do that.

Howlin, I never criticized the war or supported Cindy Sheehan in any of my posts here, and yet the emotional, knee-jerk reaction was typical of what happens here. I've received very few rational responses, and only one suggestion as to how the situation should be handled. The rest was rant and rave.
That's groupthink.

So what does a PhD in political science and a dollar buy you??
(you've been around long enough to know we don't put much stock in letters after peoples names)

Since when is the National Security Advisor coming out to your dusty little roadside "stick-your-finger-in-your-ears-and-she'll-go-away" strategy?
To: clawrence3
Same difference; neither one of them met with people who were openly against them AND THREATENING BODILY HARM to them.

The NCC in general and Edgars in particular is a highly partisan liberal leftist, and the President should in no event give them or him the time of day.
To: warchild9
Hey, you're right--if the American people think this story is important, it is important. We here at FR can't control the public's news preferences any more than the Editorial Board at the NYT (and we have a lot less power in this regard, naturally).
People like what they like, and want more of what they like. We can't stop them from a healthy diet of Sheehan any more than the DUmmies and Koz Kidz could force-feed Gannongate. No one can accomplish thought control; one can only make certain beliefs more likely by working within the confines of human nature/predilections.
The Press is still very powerful and partisan, but it's always been that way. A great book on the subject is Balzac's Lost Illusions.
Thanks for your comments throughout the thread. You have certainly made it an enjoyable one to read through.

Can't handle dissidence, can you?
Folks, that's groupthink in a nutshell.

"Who was it said "any publicity is good publicity?" The anti-war movement was dying before this woman set up camp in Texas. It's growing again, and to ignore this is to court danger."
Three non partisan sources to back up this claim please. Better go read the WHOLE Gallup poll before you base anything else on polling data. Bush's numbers were actually WORSE in the June poll. Also, if everything is all doom and gloom why did all the AP Editors get together to plot out how to present a "Broader picture on Iraq"

Frankly, I think you're loving the attention YOU'RE getting from the adverse comments.
If you think Bush should meet with ANYBODY who has said she would live to "drive a stake through his black heart," you're a fool.

Read. Don't react.

How come the secularist get to put on a prayer service and the scumbag ambulance chasing attorneys over at the ACLU don't protest.
Well one good thing for sure.
The reporters will attend the services and that will be a first for many of them.

They are not true believers. They do not believe in Jesus as the Son of God.
The President does not need to be seen with these people and before someone says Jesus broke bread with sinners.... this is politics... not Jesus presenting himself before the people as the Son of God. Thanks!

Since FDR was damn close to being a frickin' communist himself, I doubt lil Cindy would have been protesting him. Or maybe she would have. One day, before Hitler broke the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, kvetching that Roosevelt was leading us into war, and then the day after demanding to know why we weren't in the war backing up Stalin.

Some people believe anything--or disbelieve anything--to avoid cognitive dissonance.

Have you even seen any of the tussles here on FR amongst us over various issues? If you believe that's "groupthink" you need to sharpen your PhD.

W comes across as a dullard on television, even in the most staged appearances. The Witch Queen comes across as a dynamic, aggressive, far-sighted leader. Where is any proof of this? Your never-been-wrong opinion? Well, I beg to differ. Hillary comes across as shrill and cold. Even the looney moonbats at DU can't stand her!
