"...Well, believe it. The parallels are striking. Simply IGNORE the witnesses. The witnesses write low level books and get on talk radio. The real idiots talk about tin foil hats."

Each generation should they wish, can gain insight into the dark side of politics and government control. I often think what a joke some are criticizing the Iraqi's for instance for now appearing to be uniteing for a new effective government.
The best we can hope for is some form of check and balances that at least catch some of the larger bloopers. Of course who defines the larger bloopers, and who controls the flow of public consumption info. Tis always been this way, not saying it is the right. Those that learn early in life how to control others, and then learn the art of control and deceite will always be the leaders. And the more admirable they appear, chances are the more deceitful they are in the reality of things. Of course there are always the exceptions to the rule.

Yep, that's pretty much my conclusion. Gorelick was there to hire the staff (who supported her view), interview only those who would supply the information required .. and then ignore the 15 boxes re Able Danger's info on Atta's whereabouts.

And .. I've never forgotten Gorelick's little lovey-dovey actions toward Kean. Grossly unprofessional.

#30....But I'm seriously worried & confused why Krauthammer today, on FOX, told Chris Wallace that this was much ado about nothing.

I usually count on Krauthammer to get it right....

..and he actually said this, only qualifying it a bit by saying the Clinton administration has done plenty to be in trouble about, but he doesn't think this is it.

Now, I would have trouble thinking Krauthammer has been flipped....

..so what's the deal?

It was no surprise that Juan Williams took the same side...

..but Bill Kristol slid all over the place when asked the same question.

Did anyone else see this....and what is your take?

Everyone on the FOX Panel seemed very skeptical, even dismissive of Curt Weldon. They mentioned other accusations he's made that didn't pan out. They spoon fed viewers the arguments of Alvin Fenzenberg, the Commission staffer who, last week, gave out several versions of why Able Danger wasn't mentioned in the Report.

It didn't sound as if the panel gives Weldon's accusations any credibility. The panel really showed Weldon no respect in their initial comments, but all of them sort of couched their bets at the end, even Nina. They all seemed to agree, if Weldon has hearings, if the military sources Weldon quotes are credible, then the accusations might become significant.

Even though Felzenberg changed his story several times during the week, Hamilton did too, and even though it took Keane and Hamilton a full work week to come up with their response, and even though that response was written by staffers after they ran to the National Archives to "check their notes", the MSM seems to have bought their explanation.
I think Keane and Hamilton's joint statement released on Friday effectively shut down the media's interest in Weldon. Weldon responded to their statement through a press release from his office, not via a press conference. I found that telling.

thanks for the info, which I didn't know about. I found this:

http://www.environment.psu.edu/news/august_2005/dmz_conference.asp

"Ted Turner, Rep. Curt Weldon to Discuss Dmz Peace Park in North Korea, then Address DMZ Forum International Conference, August 16-17, 2005

Ted Turner, founder of CNN, Rep. Curt Weldon (R.Pa) and Willem van Reit, Executive Vice-Chair of the Peace Parks Foundation, will be the principal speakers at the sixth annual conference of the DMZ Forum in Koyang City, South Korea, August 16-17. Turner and Weldon will visit North Korea before the Conference.

Turner will be attending on behalf of his family's grant-making foundation, The Turner Foundation, which promotes the preservation of the world's natural habitat and builds constituencies for preservation.

Rep. Weldon has led two delegations of Congress to North Korea to promote international interchange with North Koreans and is a member of two environmental commissions."

None of her "called shots" ever reached fruition, EXCEPT for the Wall memo she wrote as Reno's acolyte, (and she obviously called that shot), and the split of the FBI, justified by Gorelick in the beginning as a way to get around the wall (and hammer the FBI by taking over half its agents away), and, later on, by supporting the idea that the FBI security/terrorist agents would better fit with Homeland Security or other agency whose total focus was on terrorism.

Recently, an official from one of the Homeland Security agencies was assigned to a position at the apex of the FBI security/terrorism administration. AFAIK, he acts as a "liaison" between Homeland Security and the FBI (as if the FBI wasn't doing that already).

A pessimist might say that it's the beginning of the end for the FBI, ala Gorelick, who I saw on the news some time ago, using her best chesire cat smile and demure glance, saying something like, "This isn't really an effort to split up the FBI."

Gorelick has an agenda, and dismantling the FBI is just a part of it. Gonzales should put her in a dingy back office, but, on the other hand, what, exactly, has Gonzales actually done since he became AG?

The Truth About 'the Wall', By Jamie S. Gorelick, Sunday, April 18, 2004; Page B07. It all seems to be there.

At last week's hearing, Attorney General John Ashcroft, facing criticism, asserted that "the single greatest structural cause for September 11 was the wall that segregated criminal investigators and intelligence agents" and that I built that wall through a March 1995 memo. This is simply not true.

Nice. Having a commissioner who's primary task is what someone on another thread referred to as the Bart Simpson defense.

The farcical and insulting 911 Commission,
the Bush administration's failure to nail Berger, Gorelick, clinton and clinton:
Washington's mutual protection racket writ large.

We would have it backwards and miss the point entirely if we were to attribute The Gorelick Wall and the attendant metastasis of al Qaeda during the clintons' watch, (which, incidentally, was then in its incipient stage and stoppable), to the '60s liberal mindset.

Rampant '60s liberalism was not the underlying rationale for The Gorelick Wall.

Rather, The Gorelick Wall was the underlying rationale for--The Gorelick Wall was (insofar as '60s liberalism was the Wall's apparent impetus) a cynical cover for --the willful, methodical malpractice and malfeasance that was the product of the virulent clinton strain of rampant '60s liberalism.

The Parallel Universe of Jamie Gorelick

It is quite clear that the agencies of government who should have been protecting us in these circumstances had not even barely contemplated this sort of event and therefore were not prepared to execute against any kind of plan and so you had massive miscommunication and failure to execute on what they needed to do.

This is a persistent question that we have had.

There seems to have been an enormous disconnect between the intelligence community and what it thought the threats were and the individuals who had to plan against given threats.

So you see the FAA utterly unprepared for--uh--not taking any steps to prevent hijacking of this sort, and you hear NORAD--that is, our military--who are supposed to protect the domestic air space, saying they were focused completely outward and had almost no capacity to protect us internally.

I would just say, though, Pete, and you've been at the Pentagon, too. You know this.

The military is pretty good as a--an intelligence consumer. And my question today for General Myers and others was, why didn't you pull into yourselves and into your own planning process a government-wide assessment of what the threats were?

And you know, John [Lehman] is right. They didn't get intelligence which said, "Focus inside." And so they were focused completely on the perimeter. And that has an enormous impact in what you're seeing in this report....

I mean, you can't fault the FAA here at all. I mean, the FAA did not have the right intelligence either.

I mean, it was not exercising against this. It had protocols as we just discussed that were not remotely appropriate to the kind of hijacking that we had, to an airplane used as a missile.

This is not the FAA's problem. This is the way in which intelligence, which was someplace in the intelligence community, did not find its way to policy makers and certainly to implementers like the FAA and like the Pentagon.

CLINTON TREASON + THE GORELICK WALL

This story merits its own book, but what deserves immediate comment is the willingness of the Clintons to risk everything to keep the cash pipeline open. Schwartz kept it open and full. Before he was through, Schwartz and Loral would donate roughly $2 million to the Clinton cause. Whether Schwartz gave additional money or favors off the books is a question that deserves asking.

A second question that deserves asking is just how much damage Schwartz, Berger and the Clintons did to America's national security.

A third question worth asking is whether Ron Brown's very real threats to expose these machinations led to his death.
