I guess PETA would like them to change the names to something like the Carebears or some other muffin name.
What a bunch of bullshaw!

"The Gamecocks are named after birds used in cockfighting. These birds are pumped full of stimulants, hormones, and blood-clotting drugs. They have sharp blades attached to their legs to make the fights more exciting, i.e., bloodier."
Psst. Hey, Peta. They know what Gamecocks are. That's why they chose it as their nickname.

These birds are pumped full of stimulants, hormones, and blood-clotting drugs. Cool! I want a pair.
If they can't fight, I'll grill 'em.

"The Gamecocks are named after birds used in cockfighting."
Here you go Peta.....
Gamecocks are a strong, colorful, and territorial type of chicken, or fowl. They posess an inherent aggression toward all males of the same species. They do not have to be trained to fight. This natural agression is what distinguishes gamecocks from farm chickens. Often used in cockfighting, they are trained for added strength and stamina, not "gameness."
"Gamecock" is sometimes used as a nickname for people who are considered fierce fighters. During the American Revolution, General Thomas Sumter earned the nickname in his battle against the English forces in South Carolina.
