That was then, this is now.
Truman was a product of his age...racist and bigoted by today's standards, sometimes stunningly so (i.e. calling New York City "Kike-town",) but I think his views mellowed significantly as he went through life. I don't hold slave-ownership too much against Jefferson or Washington, either--it was the age they were in.
It wasn't as if Truman was a Kleegle or anything, like some other Democrat politicians (cough Robert Byrd cough) we know. Truman signed the order integrating the armed forces. He also didn't run around the world after he was out of office saying how horrible the U.S. is like some other former Dem Presidents we also know. All in all, I'm willing to give him a break.
And, I'm not sure anyone joins the Toastmasters to be politically expedient. To get your "um" count down, maybe . . .
You don't join the KKK and then claim victimhood. He knew what he was doing.
The democrat KKK was busy killing Republicans alongside blacks.
Truman's origins in the Pendergast machine are to me much more significant than his dalliance with the KKK.
The man's dead. I'll leave it there.
We don't even teach "science" either. How could a woman become a Shuttle Commander who thinks the Earth is running out of air? Why do you think government bureaucrats are so violently opposed to home schooling? Without a unified, dumbed down, castrated populous, Socialism can never complete its takeover.
