Something that's been with me for many years was listening to a recent graduate from the University of Missouri school of journalism (supposedly one of the better schools) say that he became a journalist "to make the world a better place."
It hit me right there that I had always thought that a journalist's job was to report the news in order to inform people. By "making the world a better place," that left an awful lot of wiggle room for information to become propaganda.

At least since the Tet offensive in Viet Nam...
When Walter Cronkite said that the war was unwinable.

"Kind of been bothering me recently. What do you call a self-important moron who is convinced they are a expert on all the more complex fields of human endeavor? A person who considers themselves qualified to render judgments on everything from Military Strategy to Law?"
Well, FReepers do it all the time on FR, the difference is that we do it for political action/fun. Whereas, journalists get paid to do it. Big difference. Hear ya!

I recall TV "news magazines" during my reckless, feckless youth. Programs like "Eyewitness To History" and "You Are There".
I remember names like Tshombe, Kasavubu, Lamumba, Nkruma. They were always spoken of in such glowing terms. The future of Africa, etc, etc.
However, I can't recall a single instance where a "rightie", as our esteemed Mr. Moonbat calls them, was highlighted on these programs, let alone spoken of glowingly!
It think it probably predates that, maybe going on before Army-McCarthy. Who knows? The only thing for sure is, TV "journalism" is quite really an insult to the institution of Journalism, it's been controlled by the "lefties" since at least 1953, and anyone who depends on it for "news" deserves the derision they get from other "normal", more informed people.
And as America's most trusted newsperson would say, "That's the way it is!"

Except that Freepers are expressing an opinion that is clearly understood to be an opinion where "Journalists" claim to be reporting "the News" or "facts". See the difference??????

Yes, of course I see the difference. Which is what I originally commented.
Journalists generally don't have the necessary level of knowledge or competence to report on the subject they're commenting on.
I think we have a circular argument going. I agree with you.
