Carrying $5k in cash wouldn't really bother me. I certainly wouldn't pay for a cashier's check just to avoid carrying that amount of cash over to my bank.
Do you not think it's possible that this man slipped in a phony bill to see if he could get it through and if he couldn't, just say, "oh I got screwed by the other bank."
There's absolutely no consequences for this guy, or any other person to give that a shot at all.
No, I don't think he slipped in a phony bill, only to take it back to the bank and ask to return it. Why would anyone do that? If you had a counterfeit C-note, you wouldn't take it to a BANK, where you'd most assuredly be caught--you'd take it to a convenience store and buy $4 worth of merchandise and get $96 in change!
This man did nothing illegal or unusual.
I think the bank screwed up and gave a counterfeit bill to one of their customers.
This bank charged a fee to cash a check. Never heard of that.
