I would prefer to be standing in front of a judge and jury explaining how my labrador had never bitten anybody before, than stand there explaining how my "big loveable" rottweiller had mauled a child to death.

There is a world of difference between a dog bite and being mauled to death by a 150 pound beast.

Imagine yourself in front of the judge and jury. Which case would you rather be explaining? You lab biting a child and being pulled off, or your 150# rottie mauling a child to death?

As with guns, one must consider the potential courtroom fallout if things go unexpectedly wrong.

Only where I am allowed to pack a handgun, will I be comfortable around big dogs packing teeth.

If I must give up my right to carry handgun to live in an area, then rottweillers and other killer dogs must give up their teeth.

When I say poodle, I am referring to the 95% which are toy and miniature poodles under 25 pounds.

Oh, OK, in that case, I agree with you.

It is not normal for a wolf/dog to attack a younger member of the order. The younger members are welcomed.

"Then she finally had it put to sleep and had it cremated and intends to have it buried with her."

I hear ya!

Some people really become attached to their pets and parting from them in any form, is unbearable.

My wife has the same attitude towards our chihuahua!

But not me! LOL!

:0)

If anyone wishes to seriously discuss this issue just look at the facts gathered from the following organizations:

Center for Disease Control, Canadian Federation of Humane Societies The Federation for Animal Welfare Humane Society of the United States. The Canadian Safety Council, The Canadian Veterinarian Medical Association, American Veterinarian Association, National Companion Animal Coalition.

All of these organizations reviewed available data on dog bites and dog related fatalities. The conclusions reached were that the statistics did not support the assertion that any one breed is more dangerous than another. When legislation was introduced, the number of fatalities did not decrease. Measures were costly to municipalities, unenforceable, unconstitutional and simply did nothing to address the real problem which is irresponsible dog ownership.

People make these dogs mean.

Do people make these dogs lick their own butts and pee on trees too?

I have seen cognitively-challenged owners laugh when their dog starts harassing someone. There is a sadistic impulse in at least SOME of the owners who select breeds known for viciousness and aggression. It's not like people can claim they have NEVER heard of this happening.

Thanks for the offer, but we are making ours available to any interested new owner. They were purchased for our now 9-year old, who only got them after he promised to clean the cage, feed, water, etc.

Mrs.-Bush-Man has cleaned her last cage, and they're on their way out.

p.s. -- nice "pink" fire place! ;o) Looks like you've been busy!!

The baby was not part of the 'order,' the baby was an interloper.

The rottie had just "lost" its owners and was probably disoriented and upset. Then there is a new and unknown baby, getting all of the attention from the "new owner." This makes the rottie feel threatened, in that it will no longer be the top dog under the owners in the pack, but will lose that status and affection to the interloping baby. In the rotties mind (I'm guessing here) the baby threatened its status, and had to go.

I agree with that point. It was your previous post that used the "never" word that I wanted to address. Never is like, a really really long time. Some breeds are obviously more dangerous then others. As surely as some people aren't fit to be parents, many aren't even fit to own a dog.

You'll see that as killers, those two breeds are much more prevalent

That's only because they have the power behind the punch. If chihuahas were 150 lbs, they'd be killers also! There are bad dogs in every breed, some made that way, some are just bad dogs. Unfortunately, dogs with power to kill are the ones that get the bad rap.

As with guns, I prefer to coldly analyze the potential courtroom downside, as I laid out in 141.

I wish my wife and I had read this before we bought our Anatolian Shepherd:

from the Anatolian Shepherd Rescue website:

quote

About Anatolian Shepherds

The Anatolian Shepherd Dog is a large and powerful dog, and as such is not suited for everyone. They were bred for hundreds, if not thousands of years in their native Turkey as Livestock Guardians for the flocks of semi-nomadic shepherds. Their natural foes included wolves, bears, and wild boar.

Livestock guarding dogs, in all parts of the Old World where they were bred, needed to be able to think and act quickly and independently to protect their flocks. This ability was highly valuable to the shepherds and therefore selected for. That same ability, coupled with his strength and size, makes the Anatolian unsuitable for the average pet household.

It takes experience and dedication to work with this independent breed, especially if the dog is to be a house guardian. In these pages, we will try to show you what ASDs are like, so that you can make an informed decision about adopting one. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Please be sure to read all about ASDs before considering adopting one!" end /quote

Some dog breeds were bred to be fighters. plain and simple.
