"Send it to Chicago. We would love to have it here. It would be a great addition to NAVY pier."

No Way!! The City of Chicago once had the US submarine with the second highest score of sunk Jap tonnage. (Score was often kept on the weight of steel sent to the bottom, not the total number of ships alone). The WW2 Sub USS Silversides was docked at Navy Pier for 20 years. The city had the submarine moved out of town because Mayor Harold Washington and the city council wanted the historical association that operated the sub to pay a super high dock rental fee. Much more than what the sub took in for admissions. It was really just a trick by the liberals to get rid of a nasty, evil US war machine. The sub was moved across Lake Michigan to Muskegon, Mich where they built a dock and museum for the sub. Chicago is NO FRIEND to the US military.

Here is an attached pic of the Silversides in Michigan:

Insane, SF wins as kookiest city in the US. Berkeley does not count as a city.

We also have the USS Hornet in Oakland, at the old Navy pier - wort a trip!

We also have Treasure Island, the Okland Navy Base, The Prisidio, the list is long, San Fancisco has a long-time history with our armed forces, especially the Navy - we still hold Fleet Week. I could be wrong, but I bet the Iowa used SF as a home port, and SF was a liberty port as well, so I'd bet we'd been visited by the Iowa.

I go back and forth about the SF city council - when they make childish, selfish comments like this, I say, impeach them or throw them out - they thumbed their noses at big tourism money, when budgets in the Bay Area are out of control - they could USE the tax money, especially with the Pretyy Boy Mayor's support for subsidizing bums.

I'd laugh if Lucas bought it, or provided for it's berthing, but I don't know if The Prisidio (tm, Lucasarts) has any land at the shore.

BUt the other part of me, the darker side, says let them hang themselves. They're making SF so hostile to ANYTHING - business, tourism, living - that they'll ensure a conservative Mayor's office and council for decades with their idiocy. I just feel sorry for the people that have to try and live in their Socialist Paradise (tm) Eperiment.

Just watch - SF will ban smoking EVERYWHERE, even in private homes, within 4 years. They've hinted at taking away private ownership of homes there, and god knows what else they want - raising the minimum wage to $20 an hour, trying to control executive pay with pay caps, commuter taxes on top of sky-high bridge tolls - I'm sure they'll come up with something, they always do.

The only problem is that normal folks are fleeing or have fled years ago - and replaced with gays and illegals and Eurotrash and Asiatrash, who all LOVE the city council.

Bah. Let them have it, they sold the soul of the city to Starbucks a decade ago, the things that made SF great are gone, except the weather.

They said the ship was present at the signing of the surrender, not that it happened on the USS Iowa.

Sail her up the Mississippi and dock her on the Iowa side of the river. That would be suitable.

That would be my idea. Don't know if it is possible to navigate her up the Mississippi, but if it was and I were the Mayor of Davenport -- I would be busting my Butt to get her there.

Correct. The treaty was signed on the deck of Big MO, the USS Missouri. The Iowa was alongside MO.

The guy is an elected official, and paints "smash the state" on a wall? He is PART OF THE STATE. What an idiot.

Pretty sure the USS Missouri was "Mighty Mo," not Big Mo.

Charleston, SC has the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, a destroyer and a submarine. Who says the Iowa wouldn't work alongside the Lexington at Corpus Christi?

"I am sad to say I am not proud of the history of the United States of America since the 1940s,'' Daly said.

But, you're damned glad to take America's money, resources and protections.

Worthless slug.

Orkin man? It needs lethal atomic radiation.

So let's say you're in Frisco for a corporate gathering. Fancy hotel, you're sitting pretty. Dinner at the "must" restaurant. Just as that dirty fork crosses your lips try to image where the chef's hands, the waiters tongue, and the dishwashers mouth were just a few short hours ago. And you're worried about raw chicken in your kitchen?????HHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA!
