I purchased the unofficial biography written by Paul Williams, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

Veronica Guerin was also a fascinating film.

Though Cahill played a peripheral role in that one, he was probably one of the more interesting figures portrayed.

Plus, Cate Blanchett-who happens to be one of my favorite actresses-was in the starring role of that motion picture, so that's another good reason to see it.

In addition its phenomenal score.

At least the Orangemen aren't a terrorist organization.

Ulster Defense Force

Aren't/Weren't the UDF more of a training organization than an actual organization like the UVF, UFF, LVF, etc., that actively murdered people?

They'll just put it in the file next to all of the Barney Fife resignations.

I believe the film is based on his book. Oddly enough John Voight, the American actor, plays an Irish cop ... and does a decent job.

Veronica Guerin was also a fascinating film.

It was great!

Not true (kind of).

But let's define which IRA he/she is asking about - PIRA, RIRA, CIRA, INLA...?

<> It may be that there is too much history and brutality on all sides to have anything less, but when is it time to start looking to the future?

One thing I've learned about Northern Ireland - a majority of the people aren't ready to stop living in the past and look to the future.

He couldn't have been as bad as he was in the dreadfully miscast role as Noah in that atrocious NBC TV-film.

GAH!

When good actors get bad scripts it can be deadly combination.

The fact that Ulster remains a part of Britain United Kingdom is for the most part irrelevant in this day and age.

I think this conflict is going to be resolved by young people growing up and not carrying on the handed-down conflict. It's one of the unintended consequences of youthful disaffection with adults's interests, in this case a beneficial one. I say this based on comments I've heard over the years from young Irish immigrants I've known, so it's surely not based on science, but it's a pretty pervasive attitude.

They didn't do to bad for themselves in the late 1960's and 1970's. Some could even fairly argue that they were in fact the training ground for the UDA, UVF, etc etc

I have to wonder who actually believes this statement? How many times have they made these same promises? May 2000, September 2001, April 2002, October 2003 are just a few examples.

I don't believe this promise and here is why:

We have invited two independent witnesses, from the Protestant and Catholic churches, to testify to this.

Do they think we don't remember back just a few months ago to when the last negotiations fell apart over this issue (that and the bank robbery). Ian has said he won't accept anything but pictures. The Provos will never agree to that. They make this statement, knowing Ian's conditions, so that they can point the finger of blame at him when they change their minds again.

Let's hope and pray that you are right.

I constantly tell my boyfriend (Northern Irish Brit) that the key (a key anyway) is integrated schools. My boyfriend comes from a long line of police officers in Northern Ireland, but had the opportunity to meet and become friends with Catholics through integrated schools in his later years.

If more children were exposed to the other's culture/religion at earlier ages, through integrated schools, I think we would see a monumental shift cross community relations.

I think it's definitely in the interest of the Nationalists to go along with the peace process. Because of the papal ban on birth control and differing birth rates, Irish Catholics will be a majority in the North soon enough. That's why it's important to cooperate and go along with the peace process to get the Stormont(NI Parliament) reinstated so that it will be up and running once the Catholics have enough to take over.

Yes, I knew the origins of B&Ts. Thanks for the comments too, believe me I'm not defending the IRA.

"They dont want to be classified in that group with hamas, al qaeda, etc etc.

Does this mean they're also going to stop sending recruits to al Qaeda- and Palestian-sponsored terrorist training camps?

I guess it takes a bunch of unwashed camel-jockeys to finally give terrorism a bad name.
