Andy Card and the rest of the Bush White House should simply admit that they have never given much thought to the investigation except to cooperate fully.... but that they do hope that Prosecutor Fitzgerald gets to the bottom of the rogue CIA/State Department smear attempt against the President and discovers who Judith Miller and the New York Times are covering up for.

Boy! Wouldn't a statement like that throw the scumbag Democrats and their allies in the dying, socialist "mainstream" newsrooms into a hissy fit! I think that it's long past time for Bush to go on the offensive. Urinate right in their faces.

the so called "12 hour gap."

Not long ago, Calvin Trillin published a popular op-ed about how the Administration was suspect because they didn't go out and party together, they were just co-workers who at the end of the day went home to their families and personal lives. Trillin hinted that they didn't like each other and of course didn't work long hours. Dems LOVED this piece.

Now, they seem to be saying the Administration is positively incestuous in its 24/7 nonstop contact with each other.

Can't have it both ways Chuckie.

IIRC, Card obtained permission from whoever called to tell him of the investigation to wait until the morning to inform staff.

Are you kidding? Why would the scumbags want to get the story right?

Good Lord!

Before I even got to this part I figured it's what happened:

The night he learned about the impending investigation, Gonzales told only Chief of Staff Andrew Card. Gonzales says he waited until morning to let other White House officials know, since most of them had gone home.

So obvious, but the desperate dems are grasping anything and everything in their frantic efforts to make SOMETHING stick.

LOL

Definitely.

I've been saying it since day one.

I will be SHOCKED if Wilson or Plame herself don't wind up being fingered as the leakers.

Democrats are suggesting that Gonzales' 12-hour delay in informing Bush administration officials was calculated to give them time to destroy documents.

Have they checked Hillary's quarters?

Here's a question I haven't seen asked....Even if Rove were "fired", what would it accomplish except for a temporary black eye for W? Do the RATs really think that the GOP would not continue to seek out Rove's political advice and strategies? I'm sure even the White House would continue to rely on his expertise, and nobody but political insideres would ever know or care.

Democrats are worked up over getting rid of Rove because it plays into one of their cherished delusions, which is what they have these days instead of plans, ideas or policies. They spent the Clinton years training themselves to swallow any falsehood, no matter how transparent, and the bile and insanity of the 2000 election combined with that to unhinge them from reality entirely. Consider what today's Democrats, at least many of the loudest, actually believe:

* The only reason they're out of power is because the evil wizard Valdemort Rove magically hoodwinks the public into voting for Republicans, against their own interests.

* They lose because "their message can't get out," due to the fact that all the media outlets are so slanted in favor of conservatives.

* Bush is an idiot and Gore and Kerry were geniuses, despite the fact that Bush has a Yale degree and a Harvard MBA, while Gore and Kerry have far less impressive academic and business credentials.

* The greatest threat facing America today is not Osama bin Laden but Bush, who was probably really behind that 9/11 thing that Americans would prefer their leaders forget about so they can get back to talking about universal health care.

* If we just hated ourselves more and acted weaker, maybe the terrorists would start to love and respect us and not attack us anymore.

* Al Franken is funny. In fact, doggone it, people like him so much that if you put him on the radio, they'd immediately switch off all those hateful rightwingers like Rush Limbaugh and listen to Al, Garofalo and a lot of other shrill leftwing nutjobs 24 hours a day.

I could go on and on, but you get the point. They are living in such a dream world, they have build Rove up into a giant fire-breathing dragon and think that if they slay him, the Republicans will be vanquished, and they'll marry Princess Leia and rule the galaxy forever and ever. So they have spun this microscopically-less-than-nothing, would-be "scandal" up into the biggest conspiracy theory since the JKF assassination. These people don't need political power, they need Prozac.

The DCCC's timeline begins in February 2002, with Ambassador Joe Wilson's trip to Niger. It ends on Oct. 28, 2005 -- the day the federal grand jury investigating the leak of Valerie Plame's name is scheduled to expire.

I think the rats need some help with their timeline since they left so much out...

2001 early : (ARRANGED DATE THAT NIGER WAS TO SEND SEVERAL TONS OF 'PURE URANIUM' - PROBABLY YELLOWCAKE- TO IRAQ, ACCORDING TO LATER NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE ESTIMATE- THE NIE) the [Oct 2002] NIE says that "A foreign government service reported that as of early 2001 Niger planned to send several tons of 'pure uranium' (probably yellowcake) to Iraq. As of early 2001, Niger and Iraq reportedly were still working out arrangements for this deal, which could be for up to 500 tons of yellowcake. We do not know the status of this arrangement."
That foreign government service is of course the British, who still stand by their intelligence. In the next paragraph, the NIE goes on to say that "Reports indicate Iraq also has sought uranium ore from Somalia and possibly the Democratic Republic of the Congo." It then adds that "We cannot confirm whether Iraq has succeeded in acquiring uranium ore and/or yellowcake from these sources." This information, by the way, does not come from the White House [it reportedly comes from NIE, which is meant to be the best summary judgment of the intelligence community] - "CIA Intelligence Report Believed Niger Story was Accurate in Oct," The Wall Street Journal , July 17, 2003

"Mines can be abandoned by Cogema when they become unproductive. This doesn't mean that people near the mines can't keep on extracting," a senior European counter-proliferation official said. He added that there was no evidence the companies were aware of the plans for illicit mining.

FEBRUARY 2002 : (WILSON ARRIVES IN NIGER, BUT NO NIGERIEN OFFICIALS SAY THEY ATTENDED MEETINGS WILSON SAID HE HELD) He [Joseph C. Wilson] arrived back in the Niger's capital of Niamey in February 2002 on a CIA-sponsored mission to investigate a report that Iraq had bought uranium from Niger in 1999. This trip took place a year before President Bush uttered the so-called "16 words" in his State of the Union address ("The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa"). Note that the president accused Iraq of seeking uranium, not actually obtaining it, which is what Wilson was sent to look into.
He spent most of his time at the hotel — a fourth-floor suite at the Gawaeye, one report said. He was very open about his mission and its object, and began to take meetings near the pool. "I spent the next eight days drinking sweet mint tea and meeting with dozens of people," Wilson wrote in the New York Times last July [2003], "current government officials, former government officials, people associated with the country's uranium business. It did not take long to conclude that it was highly doubtful that any such transaction had ever taken place." It is unclear with whom Wilson met.
No Nigerien officials have admitted to attending those meetings. El Hadj Habibou Allele, who runs COMINAK, the major uranium-mining concern, stated he was never contacted. For their part, the staff at the Gawaeye thought Wilson was a nice guy, and they nicknamed him "Bill Clinton" after his former employer.
Let's concede that the public face of Wilson's mission may not be the whole story. There may have been a secret side to it — a side he may have been oblivious to — that has not yet been reported. It hardly seems credible that Wilson could have single-handedly investigated every aspect of the Niger-Iraq connection spending "eight days drinking sweet mint tea" and talking to people. If Niamey were nurturing such a relationship with Baghdad it surely would have been highly secretive. Uranium trade with Iraq was illegal after all; you could not expect to get a straight answer from anyone involved in it. Moreover, the wounds of 9/11 were still fresh, and this was only a few months after Coalition forces had swiftly overthrown the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. What country was going to freely admit to selling illegal WMD material to the only ruler in the world who openly praised the attacks on the Twin Towers?
As noted, Wilson came away with no evidence that the 1999 uranium sale had taken place. But over the last few months, particularly since Wilson's New York Times piece, this very narrow finding has been taken as proof that Iraq never even tried to obtain uranium. That was not the question Wilson was sent to Niger to answer, and his investigation certainly never came close to being that thorough. Yet the press reflexively cites this brief visit as the basis for the definitive answer on the entire Niger uranium controversy.
Wilson's purported influence has been inflated to the point where otherwise sensible people (and some not-so) are alleging that the inner circles of the White House had to resort to felonious leaking to discredit him. - "The Honorable Mr. Wilson. Frog-marching into the history books.," National Review Online, NRO, October 01, 2003, 8:38 a.m. by James Robbins *
* "...After eight days in the Niger capital of Niamey (where he once served), Wilson made an oral report in Langley that an Iraqi uranium purchase was "highly unlikely," though he also mentioned in passing that a 1988 [I believe this should be 1998] Iraqi delegation tried to establish commercial contacts. CIA officials did not regard Wilson's intelligence as definitive, being based primarily on what the Niger officials told him and probably would have claimed under any circumstances. The CIA report of Wilson's briefing remains classified. - From "Mission to Niger by Robert Novak, excerpt posted on FreeRepublic on 10/03/2003 9:58 PM PDT by Shermy

APRIL 26, 2002 : (CIA INSPECTOR GENERAL BRITT SNIDER RESIGNS - HIREES ACCESS TO CLASSIIED INFO IN QUESTION) Washington: A congressional investigation of the intelligence failures surrounding the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks has been thrown off course by the sudden resignation of a former CIA official hired to lead the inquiry but criticized for being too cozy with his former employer. L. Britt Snider, former inspector general at the CIA, resigned under pressure Friday, less than three months into a high-stakes probe designed to determine why the nation's spy agencies failed to pick up any warning of the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon. ...But congressional sources confirmed that Snider was forced out amid growing concerns over his management of the investigation, ranging from the tone of his leadership to his decisions on personnel. Several sources said Snider's resignation was sparked by troubling questions that surfaced in recent weeks about whether one or more of his hires lacked proper security clearances to view classified material. ... Several GOP members, including Kyl and Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), the ranking Republican on the Senate committee, expressed doubts about Snider because of his close ties to CIA Director George J. Tenet. Snider had served as a special counsel to Tenet at the CIA, and was general counsel to the Senate Intelligence Committee when Tenet was its staff director in the late 1980s and early 1990s. http://216.239.35.100/search?q=cache:dOSoOu8a48AC:www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/3164021.htm+members+2002+%22Senate+intelligence%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

That's the problem the Dems have...projection complexes and paranoid ones as well. They accuse the HOP of the things that they do, but which GOPers don't.

And since neither Rove nor anyone else on the Bush Team, CALLED REPORTERS to "leak" anything, the hypocritical cries from the Dems, about how "they" leaked and/or it was all "retribution" for Wilson's op-ed, or whatever, is ridiculous.

Here we go, from a Face the Nation interview:

SCHIEFFER: Let me also shift to this whole Karl Rove controversy and the leak of the CIA agent who was his wife--her name. You were the White House counsel when all of this took place. And according to Frank Rich in The New York Times this morning, on September 29th, 2003, when you were the White House counsel, the Justice Department notified you that it had opened an investigation into who outed Joe Wilson's wife, but that you waited 12 hours to notify White House staffers that they had to preserve materials connected to that case. That, of course, would give people time to shred documents and do any number of things. Why didn't you immediately notify the White House staff that this Justice Department investigation was about to commence?

Mr. GONZALES: When I was the counsel, it was always my practice to work very, very closely and carefully with investigators and to seek permission with respect to every step that I took with respect to an investigation. In this particular case, we were notified by the Department of Justice late one evening. I guess it was about 8:00. And I specifically had our lawyers go back to the Department of Justice lawyers and ask them, `Do you want us to notify the staff now, immediately, or would it be OK to notify the staff early in the morning?' And we were advised, `Go ahead and notify the staff early in the morning. That would be OK.' And again, most of the staff had gone home. No one knew about the investigation. And we made...

SCHIEFFER: Well, let me just ask you the obvious question, Mr. Attorney General. Did you tell anybody at the White House, `Get ready for this, here it comes'?

Mr. GONZALES: I told one person in the White House that--of the notification and...

SCHIEFFER: Who?

Mr. GONZALES: ...then immediately--I told the chief of staff. And then immediately the next morning, I told the president. And shortly thereafter, there was a notification sent out to all the members of the White House staff.
