Pieces of Chinese firm" tofu (bean curd), wrapped in seaweed, fried and served with a garnish of finely diced spring onions and red peppers.
I found the stuff salty and lacking in taste of its own.
After about one day of politely 'dealing with' being in the middle of a bunch of vegetarians, I started hallucinating about steaks, kielbasa, and burgers.
The triggering event for the hallucinaion was the kelp.
Go eat at any Japanese restaurant, or buy a prepackaged seaweed salad at the sushi counter of any large supermarket. The prof must not get out much: Americans have been eating seaweed for 20 years now.
She can have mine.
Doultz is our friend.
"A fun family activity?" She has no children does she.
Strangely, I am now craving steak again.
I think I'll pass on the seaweed in favor of a rare steak, washed down with a good Aussi red followed by a nice cigar. Life doesn't get much better than that.
My missus was adamant that she was going to 'make' me become a vegetarian.
And her church group went out of their way to be as condescending as possible to the wicked 'meat eater'..
So now whenever I hear of 'kelp' or 'seaweed' stuff, I start craving burgers and such.
Pavlov's dog to the extreme I guess.
Only instead of a bell, it is kelp.
Wave kelp in front of me and I start drooling about steak..
*sigh*
That's what I'm envisioning.
I'd better light out of here, as now I'm getting hungry and my keyboard is starting to look mighty good.
Whenever I give blood I always start the day with a cholesterol combo of eggs, bacon, biscuits with sausage gravy, and a large black coffee. I hope one of these vegeterrorists receives my blood so they will get at least some carnivore into them and start craving dead animals and mashed potatoes with gravy.
I just checked your flag - mmm, I don't know if there are any Trader Joe's stores in that area. They sell several kinds of Japanese crackers and many of them have seaweed in them.
I like them too. But what I really like is toasted nori, in fact I can hardly control myself around it! Many of the people who make fun of seaweed might like toasted nori. When I used to live in Hawaii sometimes I would collect seaweed, soak and wash it, chop it up with stuff and eat it.
You already eat it. Kelp is processed into an additive that ends up in almost all ice cream. Its also common in canned soups and many other products on the store shelves. I add dried seawood from the local Chinese market to my stir fry to impart a Japanese flavor. BTW, my bro-in-law works for a big kelp factory in California. When asked what he does for a living, he replies, "I grow yellow slime and you eat it." The kelp is processed with various yeasts and other bugs to obtain various products.
Mmmm, sushi!
Looks like the North Koreans are taking the Professor's advice:
