I don't care for government workers and I don't care for trial lawyers

Me either. But in this case we must choose between the government workers (the cops) and the trial lawyers for the families.

I will take the trial lawyers and families here instead of the government bureaucrats who will be trying to cover their asses.

Three boys are dead as a result.

Three boys are dead as a result of the actions of three boys and the complimentary inactions of parents. Anyone who blames anyone else, even partially, should receive the John Edwards "No Personal Responsibility - So Pay Me" Award.

Looking at this as a juror I would have to say the majority of the blame falls on the parents.I would assign 70 percent of the blame on the parents and 30 percent on the police. If the family wants to win a lawsuit they will have to prove that the police were no less than 51 percent responsible for the deaths.I can't see that happening unless there's something I missed.

If this officer searched Klebolds and Harris' car for weapons while they were driving to the Columbine High School, but the cops forgot to look in the trunk were the guns were, what would you say?

If DEA agents missed three 100 pound bags of cocaine that drug dealers were hiding in the trunk at the Mexican border, would you let them off?

If they had a tip that Osama bin Laden was in that car and they forgot to look in the trunk, would you just shrug your shoulders?

If you owned a drive-in theater, your 17 year old employees would know enough to look in the trunk for people trying to sneak in.

Searching a car is not rocket science. Sheesh!

I can't absolve the police of their negligence in this case but it pales in comparison to the negligence of the parents. The parents created a hazardous environment for their kids and then allowed them to play in it for hours unsupervised.Where were they when the kids were still conscious and able to kick and scream for help? Why didn't they search the trunk during their three hour search? If the kids had died in an abandoned car owned by a neighbor, that neighbor would have been arrested.

Yesireebob!! Dad has painted a history of neglect on Mom. (reports to DFCS) Kids can find trouble fast w/o looking, but the 'few minutes' story doesn't add up. Mom was the first one looking to put responsibility on someone else. She was the one 'supervising' the kids, it was her yard, which the car had been in for 3+ weeks (in which, at least one of the kids was drawn to playing in before) It took AT LEAST 3 hours before the 911 call (by a different parent??) for help. :-(

They said the parents searched for 3 hours prior to calling the cops. If that were true, then the parents are to blame. If my kids disappeared and they were on my property still, I would have found them in 10 minutes no more
I agree that the parents are to blame. I disagree with the 10 minute time frame b/c I've been there. When my son was 2-2 1/2 he disappeared. We were about to call the police (which, where we lived, probably would have taken longer to arrive than is acceptable) after searching the house and yard 3 times, yelling frantically. This took longer than 10 minutes. He was playing 'hide and seek' with us in the laundry hamper in our bedroom! We didn't check there! I still don't know how he managed to get into the hamper, leaving it in position and upright, without anything to stand on. B/c of where I live now, I would call 911 much faster, it would vastly improve the chances of a positive outcome.

LMAO!! What do you tell people walking by? "I'm looking for missing people"? ... sorry, the thought of randomly popping people's trunks open cracked me up... :-( until I thought of MY trunk being popped open!

Kids were missing for three hours before the parents called the cops. Took 7 minutes from the time CPD got the call to get to the house. Primary officer took info, backup started preliminary search. Camden PD called in the Camden County Sherriff (3 dogs) and the Cherry Hill PD Bloodhound.

Two CPD officers looked in car. No evidence of anyone even being remotely near car and car appears not to have been disturbed for sometime.

CCSD and CHPD dogs were in close enough proximity to the car to get a hit. They never did. CHPD bloodhound tracked scent to the Delaware River. Scent picked up a hundred feet or so from car. CCSD gets dive team in the water.

Two days later, dad nonchalantly moseys on over to car and pops trunk and bingo, kids are there. Let me add that the trunk was cracked open. Dad just pulled it up. No keys, no prying, and no popping it from inside the car. Wonder how that exactly happened?

CCSD and CHPD have dogs re-tested just in case. Dogs hit every single time during tests.

My neighbor is a CCSD officer and spent 18 hours OT looking for the kids, along with almost every off-duty CCSD officer and all of CHPD dog handlers.

No way is CPD, or CCSD responsible.

You don't know what you are talking about

Ask your cop friends if they would include the trunk when searching a car.

Just because you have competent police friends that were on site does not mean that the officer who "searched" this car didn't screw up.

Imagine you were a small business owner like me. You tell one employee to turn off the machine so another one can clear it. And the employee comes back and turned off all the switches, except one. And the first employee gets seriously hurt.

Does it matter how good all the other employees are that work at your company? No, it only matters how badly this one employee screwed up.

If your friends are half as dedicated and thorough as you claim, its too bad THEY didn't search the car.
