The problem with "guilt from hindsight" is that one no longer has the tempo and the sheer fright of the moment; - of the times during which such decisions were made.

I just saw an argument last night on another thread, between two commentators. One suggested that we should round up all Muslims and sequester or deport them.

I happen to favor that approach.........and I do so in the interests of saving America. No measure is "too harsh," when you're discussing the fact that your country, your native land hangs in the balance, and that failure to take every possible precaution means turning this shining city on a hill into the Islamic States of America.

The FReeper who was opposing the above poster's argument thought that in America we just can't engage in such sweeping, drastic measures.

Try positing that you are looking back on this period from 2080, and you're wearing a burka if you are a woman, and a turban with a bushy full beard if you are a man.......and you're puzzling to yourself why those who were in charge, and those truly patriotic Americans in 2005 didn't TAKE A STAND and pursue brutal but effective measures to save you from what you are now enduring.....in 2080.......with no end in sight because Islam owns the world!

I'd rather see a presidential apology in 60 years from now to the pacified decendants of today's American Muslims than wake up and find a couple of smoldering cities.

If we could stop the next King's Crossing attack in America by starting to deport the most devout Islamic fundamentalists today, wouldn't it be worth it? Are even 53 deaths worth not doing it? What red blooded American is willing to accept 53 bombing deaths in an American city because we refused to intern our Islamist population?

Thanks, John. When you - and other THINKING Americans - say things like this, it makes me proud to be an American. We can only hope that our leaders will eventually see it this way, too........or that enough true Americans will, in a phrase, "rise up" and demand that these hate-spewing Allah worshippers be carted off to yell their lungs out to their hearts' content.....in caves and sand dunes, where they can no longer incite the unstable, murderous passions of young "jihadists."
