Frivolous lawsuits = One of America's many cancers.

But cops aren't omnipotent. They are only regular people putting their lives on the line to keep the streets of America safe (with the exception of dirty cops, but that's a whole nother' can of worms). And when they try as best as they can (I mean, come on, they were shot at multiple times before they responded), they shouldn't be criticized for not succeeding Actually they did succeed, the criminal wasn't allowed to take out any police or other innocent bystanders. I have a daughter only a month older than this little girl. My heart hurts for the mom, with that said--I think the LA cops get a lot of bad press, have a thankless job, and are under incredible pressure. The guy had already fired, (I think I read 40 times) I don't know what else they could have done. Obviously there is something wrong with someone who holds their own child hostage...but if it was drugs and alcohol as I have read--it was choice upon choice he made. Sometimes other people take the consequences of our actions (and I realize that sounds harsh in this instance) I don't think any of the police officers are happy with the outcome. It's an unfortunate outcome to something that could have been avoided by the criminal that instigated the problem.

Boonie, considering your tagline I'd expect some better reasoning from you.
Maybe you should re-read your tagline and apply it to the standard you're holding the officers to.

Actually the standard I am applying is "if a cop gets shot during a protracted hostage incident someone did something wrong". My point is learn from it. Was it a procedural, command or individual error. To just say "cops have a tough job and bad things happen" will only get more cops killed.

I have been following this some. I do not understand how a guy can be so selfish that when he decides to kill himself he brings his own kid along. I think this is the most outrageous comment yet: "It's been cruel what's happened to my brother," Brother?? Why not what his brother did to his niece???
