"It is a lot easier to understand the constitution if you know what words mean."
It's even better if you know history! See post #18, Common!
"Y'all" (FReeper-minded folk) don't get to vote against him. By statute, most "political" crime in Texas is to be prosecuted in Travis County (Austin), and the Travis County D.A. has a lock on it.
See that tiny blue spec near the center of the Great Red State of Texas? Earle is elected by those voters. That tinier red dot in the blue spec is my house, but my vote and Mrs. U's don't do a lot of good...
There's little hope of his defeat under this system; the People's Republik of Austin is, after all, the People's Republik of Austin, and the majority of voters here love his antics.
I've begun writing and emailing legislators about changing the law on political crime. We need a statewide-elected prosecutor for such matters, and have no such office; I believe it's time we did.
Another possibility is to bring Earle up on ethical charges. I can't imagine that it's legal in Texas to bring politically motivated charges. Even if you don't have a criminal law against it, it's surely a violation of your State Bar Rules.
Of course, you'd have to have a very compelling case to go that route, but Earle might be over that line.
