"You've apparently not been to *my* city yet. "

If your city wants to round up all the illegals and deport then I support that 100%. If you want to throw all the employers of illegals in jail that's fine with me.

But if my city decides that the illegals are not a problem and that the businesses are crucial to our economy then we should be allowed to ignore them.

Local police are in the best position to know which illegals are the problem (such as MS-13) and use the immigration laws to go after them specifically while leaving the hard working honest men alone.

"They come here to work in order to take their saving home to Mexico where they live like kings. Most of the money illegals earn goes to Mexico"

Would you prefer that they work here for several years and then return to Mexico our stay here permanently?

The Baby Boomers will be retiring soon. Who will take their place in the workforce? Who will continue to pay into SS when we are pulling money out of it?

The illegals will.

It appears that Businessweek is trying to supplant The Onion as a source of tongue-in-cheek humor.

The problem is that the underlying premise is too absurd to accomplish the intended parody. The only thing legalizing so-called undocumented immigrants would accomplish is more illegal immigration.

Seal the borders!

I don't want illegals here at all. They should stay the hell in Mexico.

"My FRiend... the entire reason people hire illegals in the first place is because they don't pay taxes on them!"

No, they hire them because they are the only employees they can get.

The employers I've known in the past don't want to have illegals as employees. They intentionally don't go out of their way to check the authenticity of documents because they can't sleep at night worrying about ICE or IRS if they know they have illegals working for them.

Employers of illegals have insurance and bonding problems. Illegals often can't drive company vehicles. Every employer knows the value of employees whom you can depend upon to always show up for work. Illegals are subject to arrest at any time.

When businessmen have a good employee who is illegal they often assist him in trying to get a green card, often paying the immigration lawyer themselves. Why do you think all the national business organizations are pushing the guest worker program?

Have you not been on a thread with Rod before?

Don't know if you're trying to bait him or prove a point but I'll take a step; I'll say that people with brown skin and speak no english are probably illegal, yes.

I've seen the bumper sticker but I don't buy it.

They're also ...[receiving] about 20% less in wages...that leads...higher profits to employers.

There you have it the one and only reason business interests support the illegal invasion. The extra profit is a peculiar interest that pro-business Republicans serve.

Every other reason is whitewash and window dressing. If the extra exploitation profit wasn't there no one would want the invasion except for vote importing Democrats.

Great Rod!!
Appeal to America's greed!!
Right?

Worked pretty good for justifying shutting down factories stateside -- *enmasse* -- & off-shoring *all* the work to China, eh? ;^)
And the same shtick will undoubtedly be used for ramming CAFTA down our throats too, I suppose. :o)

Can't recall exactly who to quote, nevertheless it's never been any truer than now, nonetheless.
Paraphrased: "A capitalist will sell the executioner the rope used to hang him with."

Amazing.

...America will never learn.

As I've posted before, I don't believe the Administration's unwillingness to address illegal immigration has anything to do with economics. It's all about keeping Hugo Chavez from stirring up a Communist revolution in Mexico (and the subsequent conversion of Mexico into Al Qaeda's safest haven in the hemisphere) by allowing Vicente Fox a safety valve. Mexico's poor and downtrodden thus don't have to listen to Chavez's agitators when they can instead come to America, make money, and see for themselves that capitalism is a better option than Marxism.

Any economic displacements illegals cause in America are considered minor compared to the risk of having another Chavez on our southern border. The Administration is hoping that over time the economic disruptions will be minimized, that Mexicans who find success here will return home and export that success, and that Mexico will eventually come up to our level rather than dragging us down to theirs. It's a gamble, but one the Administration apparently feels they have to take...and can't openly talk about.

Hey, how about you and me open up a chain of "shanty supply stores" to provide materials for housing all these illegal immigrants.

Things like Used plywood, corrugated tin, plastic sheeting......bungee cords...that sort of stuff

No sense letting this opportunity to cash in on the massive economic development boom slip by......

Unfortunately coupled with a wasteful wealth redistribution industry (yes, it's a huge industry that's doling out your tax money called the unelected bureaucracy).

Top it off with a huge dollop of "diversity" instead of "American values".

Yea amnesty failed in 1986, what makes anyone think it would work now? Those that don't learn from history are doomed to failure...

Absolutely, The Bs feigned sympathy for these poor immigrants is nothing more than a white wash for employers that want to pay substandard wages, avoid collecting and paying taxes, providing health care and thumb their noses at the hard working Americans that pick up the tab.

And the amazing thing is they think that luring some poor slob from his home, family, and country, risking death in the process, IS HUMANE. It's sick beyond belief.

This article reminds me of the "millions of "homeless" the lefties always thru at the Reagan Admin. LIES, LIES and more LIES.

Don't look for answers to support a "Ponzi" scheme, get rid of it with individual accounts.

"Ponzi" Schemes
Ponzi schemes are a type of illegal pyramid scheme named for Charles Ponzi, who duped thousands of New England residents into investing in a postage stamp speculation scheme back in the 1920s. Ponzi thought he could take advantage of differences between U.S. and foreign currencies used to buy and sell international mail coupons. Ponzi told investors that he could provide a 40% return in just 90 days compared with 5% for bank savings accounts. Ponzi was deluged with funds from investors, taking in $1 million during one three-hour period—and this was 1921! Though a few early investors were paid off to make the scheme look legitimate, an investigation found that Ponzi had only purchased about $30 worth of the international mail coupons.

Decades later, the Ponzi scheme continues to work on the "rob-Peter-to-pay-Paul" principle, as money from new investors is used to pay off earlier investors until the whole scheme collapses.

I see your point, but if there aren't enough people to fill the vacancy of jobs, where do we stand? I wouldn't call it Rob-Peter to Pay-Paul. I would call it smart economics.

No one is proposing amnesty. No one get permanent residency. Illegals will pay a fine. That's more than they do now if caught.

Guest workers receive no advantage over any other applicants for green cards or citizenship. In order to get their savings they will have to return to their native country in 3 or 6 years

"There you have it the one and only reason business interests support the illegal invasion."

Wrong. There are no other employees available.

What motivates you to be so anti-business? Why would you risk destroying the American economy? Something isn't right.

"A capitalist will sell the executioner the rope used to hang him with."

Spoken by a true socialist. There is nothing conservative or patriotic about the Antis. They are just big government, anti-business socialists.
