I could care less about neutralizing Russian power any where its just that in central asia over the corse of 100 80 odd years they have made a heck of a mess and not bothered to clean it up and now its is biting us in the ass as well as them.Yes right now Overstretch is a fact of life. We will adapt like we always do. For all we talk about al-qaeda like its the new threat to the american way its nots in the same league as the Soviet Union or or a Imperial China could be some day. We are money wise and in some ways on the home front too not fighting to hard. O we want to win and my guess is we will in time but its not the same level of threat. And as I said before on GDP we are spending less then during the cold war. The baby bomers may or may not put the nation into the poor house but that is somne thing we cant control other then to state the case for national defense over and over again. And while they might like free drugs etc I am sure most just like mothers against war in general thing that you have to be alive to enjoy your retirment and they also want to watch out for their kids. How that will turn out who know but we cant ast like we are going to cruble over night when we are dealing with the problems of our time in the world.

The Russians did it because Taliban was harrassing the neighboring countries, like Khyrgizstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, which are too close to Russia for comfort. The Russian generals even considered bombing the Taliban camps in Afghanistan and sending 2 divisions to its borders back then. Remembering that Russia has its own sizeable muslim population and problems in the Caucuses, they should lick the American soldiers boots for ridding them of the Taliban threat. Now they are talking.

Spelling is a lame concept, the intent is what matters. And with all the typos, your post makes much more sense than the perfectly spellchecked message of your opponent.

From what I have seen over the years they are as much a client of us as Russia and Iran.

WRONG!!! Northern Alliance was supported by Russia and Iran while USA supported Taliban. You are trying to promote alternative history, huh?

And as far as debt goes well that a self correcting problem in time credit will get harder to get and the debt will go down own its own.

Tell it to Argentina.

Argentina is not a good example. It was under a military government about a decade and a half ago. It has alot more problems then just debt that are all feeding off one another.

9/11 took place at the end. This is when USA woke up and asked Russia/Iran/Northern Alliance to help to get rid of "friendly" Taliban. Nice try.

Argentina is not a good example.

It "is not a good example" because it proves that you are wrong.

How did we support them ? As far as I know we just did not care all that much what happened after the russians left. ANd in those days there was no taliban just alot of different groups some of which had osama etc but others had the people who would become the northen alliance. We did not support the taliban , heck we keep geting into tiffs with them all through the 90's what with aid workers geting arested and them blowing up ancient works of art etc. Not to mention hiding osama. In the end we just did not care and that was our main mistake that we shall not make again.

Oh and with Argentina weren't they they ones how decided to peg their money on the US dollar a few years ago. When politics gets involved with economics all bets are off. That place has more problems then you can shake a stick at try a country that has not gone down the craper of late.

How did we support them ?

Two ways - indirectly through Pakistan and directly as grants "to fight drug trade". At least until 1999 when Bill Clinton signed an executive order freezing $254 million in Taliban assets in the United States. The reason for this order were the attacks on American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Supporting Northern Alliance (as it was done by Russia and Iran and by USA after 9/11) was better choice.

Take japan for a example . Are you telling me their gigantic LACK of debt caused them to go into ression. When nations go into hard times they will have many causes. When you are a nation state debt happens its a fact of life. For a large part of the history of the united states we had debt out the ass. It takes alot of money to settle the west etc. In many ways debt has alot of uses on the open market. It can be a safe place to put money for long term investments , a hedge against stock colapse etc while ours may be a.....bit..... on the big side it just shows that most of the people on this planet expect the US to be on top money wise for a while atleast. If we follow the idea the debt and the people who own it will have a great hold over this nation then we had better watch our moves around japan and the saudis because they spent the 80's and 90's buying up every thing in sight and yet we still remain in control of our nation. These things come in waves and in 30 or 40 years we will have a new great threat to worry about.

I you look long enough you can tie the US money wise to any group of people on earth. In the 80's we asked the pakistanis to help us arm and train groups to fight the Russians and low and behold they pick the hard liners to give most of it to. At times our money has found its way into the wrong hands but the does not mean we where supporting them any more then we are suporting the NOrth Koreans with shipments of rice to stop them starving. Heck by your logic we where supporting them by donating all that food the aid workers where sending out in the 90's to stop them from starving. I doubt any one in washington got up one day and said " you know what those taliban guys are great leaders they need all our help" Its a good bet the president when ever he thought about it wished they would just drop off the end of the earth.
