Let me restate the question.
Assume a person is in a foreign country and is thinking about illegally invading the US and by that act becoming a Criminal Alien.
If this person knew that if his invasion were successful, the chances of finding a job, as a Criminal Alien, were very slim, would the person have second thoughts about trying to invade the US?

To them, their options are to stay home and be assured that they won't have work, or give the US a try. If they can't find work here, there are other ways to make a living (sponging off their family and/or the government, crime, etc.). The standard of living in Mexico is so inferior to that of the US that we'd have to go into a catastrophic decline to dissuade the Mexican immigrant from coming north, and not only in terms of employment. There are a number of factors that make the US more attractive and act as magnet for immigrants, and we have to some the access of the illegal to some of those factors, such as healthcare, education, and our justice system.

Thanks for your responses.
I've been giving this a lot of thought lately. IMHO, rather than building a 20' wall with razor wire on top, maybe we should concentrate on taking away the reasons the Criminal Aliens come here.
It seems to me the #1 reason is a job and the benefits derived from it. If we could convince employers that hiring a Criminal Alien is undesirable and if the Criminal Alien knew of this ahead of time, maybe they'd have second thoughts.

Interestingly enough, I read the entire exchange on the original page, in Spanish, and never once did he use the noun "lie," as in "he told a lie," (mentira) nor did he use the verb "lie," as in "He lied." Instead, he consistently made "false declarations." No wonder these people think we don't take their violations of our law seriously, if a U.S.-trained lawyer who advises them on how to get around our laws avoids using words that depict the truth of their deceit and duplicity. I think that lawyer has forgotten his oath to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the U.S.

I agree. If we take away the jobs and welfare, the illegals will have little reason to come.
And it's much easier then building a wall.

This illegal has no remorse for the crimes he's committed, even to the extent that he voluntarily contacts the newspaper and has his case laid out in public. It's just another example of how to buck the system that his paisanos can learn from.

90% of the cases at my port are due to the alien getting complacent while speaking to the inspector. When you know what questions to ask and what to look for, it becomes pretty easy.I'll bet you get a lot of panicked looks when they realize they're not going to be able to wiggle out of their lies. Do any of them try to escape?

I wrote the column to which you refer to. I came across this forum while searching for my name on google.com
I take great offense to your slanderous allegation that I advise Mexicans on how to get around the laws of the United States.
I used the term "declaraciones fraudulentas" because it means FRAUD. This is the specific term used in Section 212(a)(6)(C)(ii) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which basically states that an alien that uses fraud to obtain an immigration benefit is inadmissible to the United States and ineligible to obtain a visa to the United States.
Furthermore, I have not forgotten my oath to uphold the laws and the Constitution of the United States. It is very unfortunate that someone that does not know me can think such a thing by having misread a column on immigration law that I wrote.
I invite you and all the readers of this forum to visit the archives of the Frontera newspaper (found on www.frontera.info) for the newspapers published every Monday and Thursday since March 2005 to look up the answers to the questions I was asked and read the answers for yourselves. You will see that I actually criticize illegal immigration and explain in detail the legal consequences of breaking the laws of the United States.
I hope that this posting can help the readers of this forum understand the erroneous interpretation of my column made by the contributors of this forum. Respectfully, Antonio Maldonado, Esq.
