bump
Hmmm.. I wonder just how they're planning to catch this guy:
I know that wasn't your intent, but this is a great picture of Putin, the best I've seen.
I am almost positive he had nothing to do with it, the last thing he would want is to get sympathy votes for Yushchenko. I've read information that this poison is not fatal, and in all of history and all the world there may have been one single fatality, or not even that. If Putin wanted Yushchenko dead, he'd be dead.
yeah,,,then again, maybe he just ate Ben and Jerry's ice cream, which has also been found to contain Dioxin.
As it says in the article,,,,no amount of Dioxin is safe for consumption.

Hope they got the finger prints.
Bump for a most fascinating case.
I have to admit that I'm beginning to think the same thing.
I wouldn't put it past Yushchenko to have poisoned himself, knowing that the damage is not permanent, to get the sympathy vote. He may have miscaculated and ended up taking a little more, than "just enough", so he got sicker, but as I said, I did extensive research and dioxin is more an environmental poison, and nobody dies of it.
Now, can you imagine someone like Putin or Yanukovych wouldn't have access to some REAL poisons?
http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/hlthef/dioxin.html
They call it a "probable human carginogen". I don't see
statistics on how many deaths are attributable to dioxin or even what a "lethal dose" is. How many PPM of dioxin was found in his system?
This new report sounds suspicious. "OK, folks. We've got the mystery all wrapped up. We're not pinning it on Moscow and we're not going to tell you any more. Nothing to see here, move along."
I think my problem is that I just don't have any good data on the lethality of Dioxin. I'm checking google now but does anyone have any good links?
BTW, have you seen his high school photo?
Um, you have exDemMom here, who did her doctoral research on the fascinating topic of the toxicology of dioxin.
From my research: "Species diversity in response to TCDD is best exemplified by reported differences in lethality of TCDD, with a 5000-fold difference between that of the adult guinea pig (LD50 = 0.6-2 ug/kg) and hamster (LD50 = 1000-5000 ug/kg) (Poland and Knutson, 1982; Safe, 1986; Peterson et al., 1993). In addition, the sensitivity to TCDD-dependent lethality is not constant and it can vary throughout the life span of a single species. In contrast to the high dose which causes lethality in the adult hamster, a maternal dose of only 18 ug/kg is sufficient to cause increased embryo/fetal mortality (Peterson et al., 1993)." (Note: ug = microgram, a 1/1,000,000 of a gram.)
In humans, a LD50 has not been determined. I did see pictures of a woman who had received a 25 ug/kg dose--enough to kill several guinea pigs--who got chloracne, the same condition that Yushchenko has, but did not die. Also, I'd like to point out that while the EPA has classified dioxin as a complete carcinogen, this classification was made on the basis of its effects in animals, and it has not been shown to be carcinogenic in humans.
If you have access to PubMed, you can search for review articles on dioxin. There are hundreds of them. Many of the articles you find on Google need to be taken with a BIG grain of salt.
So dioxin exposure won't kill, AND it won't cause cancer?
Much appreciated. And your point about google is well taken. Why do you think there is a lack of human LD50 data?
It seems to me that it's a common enough enviornmental pollutant and has been for some time that if it were "very lethal" rather than "not very lethal", we'd see that LD50 more quickly. But I'm not a science guy so I'm asking you!
Also, is the chloracne caused by getting it on your skin or is it something that happens when you injest dioxin?
You just proved your screen name an oxymoron.
Do you mean that it's "not fair" to be logical?
Sheesh. He looks like he just got turned down by Leonardo DiCaprio.
What's that? Leonardo is a boy? The hell you say.
"""the last thing he would want is to get sympathy votes"""
You obviously don't know Yushchenko.
"""If Putin wanted Yushchenko dead, he'd be dead."""
You obviously know Vladimir Putin.
Good picture, but it also makes him look even more like the snake he is.
