Good post, and interesting. I was listening to Micheal Savage after Regan's funeral. He was going nuts (as is normal), but he made a good point. Savage said to pay attention to the people sitting in the front of the funeral. The power structure of both the DNC and GOP was there, acting like old friends.
He repeatedly said that it shows there is no functional difference between the two parties, they go to the same parties, belong to the same clubs, run in the same circles, etc.
We don't need to smoke em out, they are already out. We need to find a way to beat them before we all end up as slaves. The scary thing is it may be to late.
Worth repeating, many times.
Welcome to the new USSA, comrade.
If a Con-Con is called, and everything is on the table, I fear that our new "bill of rights" would look more like the USSR Constitution: freedom from hunger, guaranteed housing and jobs and medical care, etc. Socialist, through and through.
I personally think the War Between the States was the real beginning. Another one was Teddy Roosevelts progressive movement. I think TR was one of our greatest presidents and greatest men, but he started a lot of government intrusion.
I personally think TR himself would have disapproved of what his square deal programs eventually led to and some reforms were necessary but still that was another step.
FDR was another, but the real giant step was the Warren Court and the civil rights cases. Whatever the merits of the civil rights movement, many of the decisions, effectively granted government control over private businesses.
It just keeps going. Even Reagan didn't really turn it around, only slowed government takeover.

You may have noticied that the WSJ and property rights activists have picked up this "Paved Paradise" theme now - I posted this right after the New London, CT - SCOTUS decision
"Somebody" is visiting FR out there - I know - because I talk with some at WABC 770am NYC and elsewhere
