"The terrorists, both foreign and Iraqi, failed to stop the transfer of sovereignty," he said. "They failed to break our coalition and force a mass withdrawal by our allies. They failed to incite an Iraqi civil war. They failed to prevent free elections. They failed to stop the formation of a democratic Iraqi government that represents all of Iraq's diverse population, and they failed to stop Iraqis from signing up in large number with the police forces and the army to defend their new democracy."
-President George W Bush

Swell speech. Though we've heard it before. Would that he had also said that the Supreme Court's recent eminent domain judgment would "not stand". It's conutinuation makes us a totalitarian state too.

I really didn't hear anything new. Of course, being a faithful FReeper means I'm much better informed than the average American, who probably needed to hear at least a sound bite's worth of what the President had to say.

I'll applaud the speech where he promises that we will start flattening Iraqi towns that shield terrorists.

Every time Bush mentioned "our barbaric enemies in Iraq" I wished he would add "and their useful idiot accomplices here in the U.S."

I'm sure this speech reminded a lot of Americans of one thing. The Democrats and their pals in the media really are just the kid in the backseat who won't shut up.

Why would Bush make a comment on the judiciary in a speech at a military base to a military crowd?

It's conutinuation makes us a totalitarian state too.

It's another lousy ruling but it does not make us a totalitarian state which is a Durbinesque exaggeration. Good grief.

foreign fighters in Iraq who have come from Saudi Arabia, and Syria, Iran, Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, Libya, and others.

"The rise of freedom in this vital region will eliminate the conditions that feed radicalism and ideologies of murder"

Subtext: the cultures and governments of Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, and Libya feed radicalism and ideologies of murder.

Gee, what "ideology" do they have in common? Ummm....Wahabbi Islam, perhaps?
