Has religion influenced government here ever usurped your rights?
They did my ancestors....lol....the right to own slaves.
Ironic eh?
Good.
I get sick of using a corporate service and then find out they fund infanticide, NAACP, ADL etc etc
Damn, it's almost impossible to avoid
We'll all be riding our flying pigs to the second consecutive Stanley Cup to be played in Hell first.
My original point to MM (not the atheist one) was that I sure would not equivocate between Islam fundies wishing to destroy the US and Israel
...and a Christian opposing homosexuality on his own time.
frankly...I cannot believe one even needs to have such discourse.
it's such an obvious common sense issue to any American ...or ought to be.
I am ambivalent however over the right of private enterprise to fire someone for whatever reason.....and that..
they also have to bear the consequence which is where the weight of the consequence from scorn and boycott to legal action enforced by the state becomes an issue
however at the same time, the state as we now know it will gladly enforce it's view on tolerating or accepting homosexuality in certain locales
it's complicated and conflicting
which is why I prefer to rest on bedrock Christian values which I share more or less with observant Jews...and I believe the majority of our founders shared that perspective....even Mr Jefferson.
I really could care less about Muslims though.
And just think, many on this website feel sorry for big insurance companies and blame everything on trial lawyers.
I wonder when they'll start firing people for posting, at their homes, campaign signs for candidates the company doesn't like.
Do you work for yourself?
I comprehended your potings entirely and of course I agree with you 100%.
LOL! potings = POSTINGS
Trying to do 3 thngs at once.
Good thing in Coloraod we have laws against employers coercing them by threat of termination for acts performed outside the workplace.
I bet W stickers at Starbucks Corp or The Today Show has never been a good career move..lol
Insurance is a form of gambling - my personal favorite is life insurance. "I bet that I'm going to....DIE!!!"
I think this guy had to identify himself in his postings as an Allstate employee, and would have also have to have offered his 'bonafides' as an expert in some forbidden area, perhaps even making condeming statements about the insurability of homosexuals... perhaps for life and medical insurance... or perhaps a gay coworker.
My guess is that he had to do something that insinuated his company INTO his personal belief system, in violation of company policy.
If I were to say "Listen pal, I am a 'such-and-such-namebrand insurance' agent, and I won't sell life insurance at reduced rates to a high risk group like homosexuals", that 'such-and-such-namebrand insurance' company would have EVERY right to fire me.
I find it hard to believe that he was fired for simply expressing an anonymous opinion over the internet...
Still even if he did express an opinion and someone found out where he worked, some companies have policies that do not allow one to express public opinions that reflect poorly or contradict in any way the company's standards and proceedures.
Being critical of one's employer's rules regarding unacceptable sexual conduct in the workplace, such as criticising homosexuals in the workplace, when such actions are off limits, can be grounds for terminating 'voluntary' employment contracts.
Allstate perhaps has such a policy, in writing and this guy perhaps got cross-ways of it. Which is a lot more reasonable than asserting that he was fired because of his personal faith in, or testimony about God.
I would tell you to contact ALLState directly and ask them to deny this. I am not saying its just the accusation, this is on many outlets, not just some e-mailed "Forward to as many as you can" thing.
Nice ride, brother. Allison tranny, 6 wheels, four doors, big bed....that's a man's truck! I'll have one soon.
My letter to Allstate:
I am a potential customer who will be replacing both auto and homeowner's insurance in the next six months.
I have become aware of the firing of Matt Barber for expressing his personal opinion and viewpoint in the public forum. Regardless of the fact that I agree with him, I find this a reprehensible disregard for the employer/employee relationship. Any prohibition of public expression of opinion, beliefs, and faith as a condition of employment cannot be extended to one's personal time without therefore eliminating freedoms we deem vital and necessary in American society.
I will grant that Allstate has the right to terminate employment of any employee at any time. I will also note that I have the priviledge to choose who I will consider to provide services to me and my family. Please note that as a direct result of the actions of Allstate, I choose to not even entertain any policy from Allstate, its subsidiaries, or its agents. It is seldom that I make such decisions, and almost never that I feel compelled to send a letter such as this. The facts, as I understand them, however, demand that I take a stand in this case.
Two split chests in 14 months....I figured what the "F". If the Matanzas of Prairie Poodles doesn't weigh in, I'm gonna get my feelings hurt
In Graphite.....ditched the land rovers....holes in the pavement to pour money in...that is OVER
