I just recieved an E-mail that was blatently attempting identity theft. How to report?

I believe this is an attempt at identity theft...a second email came the other day...almost identical.

Whom can i report this to. Friends report getting similar emails.

I receieve at least two per day per e-mail addy. These scams are commonly known as Phishing and unfortunately they mostly come from out of the US.

Report suspicious activity to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Send the actual Phishing e-mail to uce@ftc.gov. If you believe you have been defrauded, file your complaint at http://www.ftc.gov.

Well, since they sent you a picture of themselves, I think you should send them a picture . . . of one of those pigs with wings. Say, "And here is a picture indicating exactly when you can expect me to send you that information."

I don't think the FBI or any other agency really takes the time to investigate these emails. I'd say to just trash it and forget it.

I get those all the time. Just delete it. It did not have a site to go to, did it? Do not do that!!!! I also get them from banks where I know I have no account. When I see a bank name in the email, I delete it without reading it. Good way to get a virus.

Actually, it's a simple scam. They aren't so much interested in your identity as they are your money. :-) Somewhere in this process, they'll tell you they .05% (or some number) of the total as a fee. Then, once they have your account number, and authorization to transfer into the account (as well as OUT of the account), they'll take the "fee" and you'll never hear from them again.

You could call your local FBI field office and to a computer crime agent, but (IMHO) they aren't going to care. We block thousands of these messages per month on a mail server that we manage...and that's just ONE server in this world.

If I were you, I'd just be relieved that you didn't buy into it, and just forget about it. Or, you could do what we've done before....string the guy along for a week or two and aggravate him. :-)
