Thank you SO much for posting her name: I had to look.

Alderman Dorothy J. Tillman

Nice photo of her.

"Soon after they were married, Jimmy's travels resulted in the family relocating to San Francisco. As a resident in the Alemany Public Housing, she soon realized that there was no public transportation serving the development where they lived. This neglect, she felt was rooted in racism and disrespect for poor, politically powerless people. Exhibiting the spirit that made her an SCLC leader, she took on the establishment. Drawing from her organizing skills, she mobilized residents and galvanized them around this issue. With a growing army of concerned residents, they set their sites on City Hall. The residents won their battle and got bus service for the community.

This David-versus-Goliath success story brought Dorothy Tillman citywide exposure and positioned her as one of the grassroots movers and shakers of San Francisco. Soon after this victory, the family returned to Chicago where she enrolled her children in the Mollison Elementary School. Understanding that quality education is the foundation for success of the next generation, she became an activist parent.

I do give her kudos for getting "Mastery Learning" removed from Chicago schools, however.

The Third Ward Democratic Organization, Third Ward Partnership, Inc

What's this? Gonna have to look...

Here we go....

Reparations On April 15, 2000 the joint Chicago City Council committees of Finance and Human Relations held a hearing on a resolution in support of reparations, introduced by Alderman Dorothy Tillman. The resolution generated widespread interest and support. People from several areas of the nation came to testify and make the case for reparations for African Americans. The emotional hearing lasted over nine hours. As a result of that hearing Chicago became the first city in America to hold a formal hearing on the sensitive issue of Slavery. The resolution unanimously passed out of the committee hearing and went to the Full Council where it passed 46-1. Chicago was propelled into the limelight for it?s support of reparations, and Alderman Tillman was again thrust into a national leadership role as a result of her position in the growing movement for reparations. Next, she joined with Seniors of the Third Ward to sponsor the National Reparations Convention to bring people together from across the nation to draft a unified plan of action to obtain reparations for over 30 million Black Americans who are descendants of African slaves.

I haven't gone looking yet; but am I wrong in presuming this "Ward" stuff has to do with districts?

Lowell Pointe at Frontpagemag.org has it nailed, neatly -- whole article is excellent: Oct 9, 2002:

The Other Reparations

Her [Tillman's] measure, which requires companies seeking city contracts to confess any profits they made from slavery more than 140 years ago, became law last week.It passed the City Council 44-0, with six Aldermen either absent or abstaining.

“It is curious that no witnesses appeared at [the] committee meeting to oppose the slavery disclosure ordinance,” opined Cate Plys in the Chicago Tribune. “Tillman didn’t invite representatives of companies that could be affected, and all the witnesses from academia were fully in favor.”

In this town of strongarm politics, Tillman made no effort to disguise her agenda. Any confessions extracted under financial extortion or torture, she boasted, would immediately be turned over to Grand Inquisitor teams of lawyers now preparing slavery reparation lawsuits against companies.Such trial lawyers can be counted on to kick back a fat cut of their pirate loot to the politicians who set up their prey.

The enterprises targeted by Tillman for such torture are many: “Textile, tobacco, rice, railroad, you name it,” she said, quickly adding “Banks. Of course, banks.” Always eager to grab other peoples’ money, Tillman goes where the biggest money is.And just how avaricious she is can be seen in Tillman’s declaration that “Affirmative action was five cents toward reparations.”

near end of article snip:

And if Dorothy Tillman were sincere, as David Horowitz deftly implied, she would not be a member of the political party of the slave owners, the Ku Klux Klan, Jim Crow and Bull Connor. She and her comrades would instead be proud members of the party of the Great Emancipator Abraham Lincoln.

Until Ms. Tillman, the City of Chicago, and other reparations advocates require politicians and governments that have profited from slavery to pay huge reparations in their chosen coin of the realm — not only money but also power — nobody should take anything she says or does seriously.

Dorothy Tillman is herself a slavery profiteer, even more than are the government-money-seeking companies from which she seeks to extort reparations.

I think you are right. More companies need to take a look at whatever contracts they have in Chicago; and take the loss immediately-and get out. Dorothy Tillman said it herself: Black Middle Class who have now made it should be "building" Chicago. Most people, regardless of skin color, don't like being shakendown. You'd think someone as prateful as Ms. Tillman and hers on slavery -- would, like, know this. DUUUHHHHHH!

No one likes being shaken down, bullied, and/or extorted from.

I grew up with John Wayne!!!

The apology thing. Most fascinating. Culturally, the apology thing is big in other countries; it's a part of their national identity. And often used to cover a "blade" to be applied to someone's back or heart. ;>

Corporate entities have got to know this is the "lay of the land in Chicago". Tax-chick? It makes me wonder how much of this has to do with the "global" connection thing. Meaning... expanding corporate entities and businesses abroad. Just a quick explanation: Technology (and businesses) being outsourced to India.

Year or more back, there were blurbs from Repubs, blurbs from Dems (mostly notably citing Hillary Clinton) about making connections and political/business inroads in India. Wachovia has just announced they are moving parts to India. Period.

However, I wouldn't at all be surprised to learn that businesses still resident, not yet publicized as having been shaken down by the Reparations Scam, are utilizing the India (or elsewhere) contacts devised by the Democrat Party -- overseas. Sort of a playoff for connections: "My company pays reparations in Chicago, we get business in Africa, Europe, etc." through Dem Machine in Chicago.

Just watching it.

Dems continue to lose ground with voters in the US; and so they continue to go overseas using other speakers/governments/activists in other countries to SUPPORT the Democrat agenda.

Yes, ID theft and "monies" being looted out of US into other countries to support either the socialist agenda of other countries, or to be used against the US, is a concern. There were a spate of articles a bit back about this very thing. US citizen credit cards being "id thefted" and used ELSEWHERE in the world. But I'll bet this process is being closely watched by US Homeland Security, etc.

Yes. We do need the Patriot Act. And this is an issue the libs won't even address or talk about. "Overseas" terrorism via credit card id theft, for example. I don't even want to think about "outsourced" credit card data processing operations and functions being used to finance "terrorist network". We need the Patriot Act for exactly this purpose.

I can't see how this policy is going to help anyone. The companies they are penalizing are going to pull out of town and take their jobs with them. I'd imagine there are some descendants of slaves employed by them also.

Yes, I remember the "Kumbaya" posting. And bless this person's heart -- thinking that doing an apology for no wrong done doesn't amount to submitting to a bully.

There is the Old Civil Rights Movement -- which has in fact, lost its way. There are newer groups with black leaders speaking up for the constitution, for genuine liberty, family values, and unity and comity. Fine, fine men and women in these latter groups.

The former group(s) have become little more than shakedown artists who have genuinely lost their way in re the original intent of "civil rights" foundership.

How about reparations for black crime?.

Well, you'd have to look at the "end poverty NOW" agendamongers for how this doesn't quite "work for these groups". Their ideology asserts that black crime is the result of "society" (is society's fault)-- in that society has stolen for so long from the "black", that black criminals are merely and helplessly reacting to years of being oppressed. Ergo, "it's not their fault". "They are merely taking back which is THEIRS, or simply reacting against what was done during pre-civil rights years. Like it's a "karma" reaction.

This, as I'm sure you are aware, is the line of thinking which continues to corrupt the black family -- the young being seduced into this line of thinking are being corrupted into criminal behaviors. Makes me so furious.

And of course, those who support this line of thinking turn and pad their pockets with moola every chance they get. It's disgusting. Maddeningly infuriating... Corrupting innocence in order to line the pockets of so-called "leadership".

According to what I've dug up and read thus far? It appears to me, that this "Reparations" scam in Chicago was "retroactively" applied; I don't know!

It's not clear at all when Wachovia worked out the deal in Chicago; but, from what I've read; the Reparations Act was passed in Chicago in 2002. Maybe it all happened at the same time? See mine post 42 and 43 of this thread, if you like.

You are right. Corporations need to be very "aware" of "diversity consultants" who come into companies and gain insightful information on a Company's internal operation (and employees), in addition to recognizing that preferential quotas in re United States Citizens is simply -- very bad policy! Creates internal strife within any company. Ever hear of Minority Companies quoting for, say, Whites and Asians? I never have...

On its face -- you are absolutely right. And this is what makes me suspect something else may be going on. See my post 47 of this thread. On its face; it just doesn't make sense to Chicago "growth" or companies doing business with/in Chicago. I suppose it's possible to presume that the Elderman in Chicago are only interested in doing business with "Minority Owned" businesses. Or businesses with a PC-correct CEO/CFO or legal team.
