Their help to the N. Koreans in the 50's was not minor. Their actions during the Vietnam conflict and after were not minor. There actions in Tibet were not minor...and their thretenings against the ROC are not minor.

I would add, given the strategic importance of the areas in question, their actions as regards the Spratley's and other areas in the China or South China Sea are also not minor...and this does not take into consideration their groing influence in Cnetral and South America and the carribean.

Last time I checked there is only one party allowed and has all the power there, and that is the CCP.

The Righ Wing party is the one pushing for Free Trade with China and was slow in granting asylum to the defector.

Some think China is now a fascist country.

Since they have embraced a capitalist system with a totalitarian government, I tend to agree.

Nice blog, I like it. It seems like the Chinese are just looking out for their national interest re: straights of Malacca. They are not planning on invading Indonesia or Malaysia anytime soon.

China historically has not been an imperialistic expansionist power compared to most other cultures.

Those are all minor disputes.

Minor!? Are you going to say colonization of Macao and Hong Kong was at the same scale for its size too?! The Japanese imperialist military regime is gone, we are talking about imperialism in modern days, not something way past in the 18th and 19th century. We are not also comparing regimes, it is about rather China is engaged in imperialism now or not, and there is an official National Defense Development Policy with the strategic border concept. What about the nuclear submarine that has went all the way down to Guam near the US naval base. That was a real challenge against the US Naval Force. Do you really believe the official announcements of China to say that it was a technical error of the submarine?

To me, its a hybrid. Economically they have adopted a more fascist model. Ideologically and politically they are communists and call themselves that. I believe they are communists who have made an economic adjustment that is allowing them to artificially sustain their tyranny.

We need to respond accordingly, and NOT feed it.

Just my own opinion.

Yep, it is too late for Australia. Did you see how their government tried to look the other way when all this defector talk came out. They did not want to risk any tension with China (since they have substantial trade with Beijing), and thus would not even offer these defectors real asylum.

what is your evidence that the PRC government is still ideologically Communist, as opposed to using the Communist label and rhetoric

You want me to prove that the communist leaders believe what they say? What am I, a mind reader?

Compared to other cultures, China has historically been the least expansionist.

I don't seem to recall China being communist for most of its history.

isn't it premature to call them a vassal state of PRC?

Unfortunatley, no. They have already made a number of behind the scenes efforts solely on behalf of Beijing to undermine Taiwan's relations with Pacific Island nation with whom Taiwan had diplomatic relations.

The CCP are still strongly committed to the Marxist world view. China is the wronged and exploited victim that is entitled to its proper position in the world.

Pure victocrat Marxism.

That's is but one example. They are Natonalist Socialist.

And yes, they are a kleptrocracy but that is not inconsistent with being Marxist and in fact is a hallmark of it.

Yes. I came across these netagandists almost ten years ago on usenet and other forums.

I was so happy to find FR way back when because these guys weren't here and if they showed up they were quickly booted. This made actual discussion of issues with people who had knowledge and understanding possible, as opposed to the continual need to simply waste time countering propaganda.

1963 Communist Goals, entered into the Congressional record by Albert Herlong, Jr (FL congressman 1949-69) in 1963.

Posted on Fr numerous times, but never hurts to do it again. Amazing how few have NOT been accomplished.

Well Jeff we've selling China the rope to hang us for a good while now.. Actually they they must have enough rope to hang many countries NOW.. proverbially the gallows must be being built as we post..

The Communist Manifesto is all but forgotten.. There is good ground for the completion of it.. Wal-Mart and Target (et all) are selling them the rope.. Pretty soon China will not need anymore rope.. All they are waiting for, I think, is a democrat Congress and President.. maybe only a President..

-OR- a fully controlled republican Congress and President.. Hillary(D) with John McLaim(R) as VeeP is closer than most think.. and considering how close elections are.. I'd say is very possible too.. McLaim would bring in all the RINOS..

And the BIGGEST secret of all... Bubba would be back in the White House as First Gentleman.. unelected and fully able to pull off enormous malfeasance.. Any that say this is not possible or even probable are politically autistic.. Which is a disease that republicans are smitten with.. They look at the light and waggle their fingers.. while the malfeasance goes full steam ahead.. saying.. malfeasance what malfeasance.. CLOSE THE BORDERS?, Why close the borders they say..

A wish for "Interesting times" <<- is an ancient chinese CURSE..
