Eastern TN. was strongly Unionist during the war.
You sir are exactly right. My family is from East Tennessee and was evenly split over the war. Some of the worst fighting was after the war.
"In 1776 it was "we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, and have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness""
Nice try at white washing the greatest sin this nation has ever commited. The slavery conflict was born into the Constitution at the founding of the Nation, not in 1861.
To be honest, the Constitution should have read "All men are created equal, except the black man".
it should have read, "----except for NON-white people & religious minorities."

Quite a few of my neighbors are serving with the 7th in Iraq, even as we type this. Is it OK with you if they fly the flag of their unit?
Not all slaves were black and not all blacks were slaves.
Slaves were counted as 3/5ths of a person for purposes of apportionment, not blacks.
The paraphrased passage was from the Declaration of Independence not the Constitution.
The slavery conflict was born into the Constitution, and its sin was not white washed, but washed out with the blood of patriots in the Civil War.
Other than that you just might have a point.
