The Republicans should do some research into the activities of the West Virginia klan during the time that Byrd was a member. He was a recruiter for the klan. Even if it cannot be proven that Byrd himself participated in whatever cowardly, dispicable acts took place during that timeframe, it's not unreasonable to conclude that he probably recruited the people who did. This information should be uncovered, and given as much publicity as possible during the race. That's what the Democrats would do if it were the other way around.

Where in the world did that come from?

Have you actually read any of Surber's writings about Byrd?

"It won't be easy to beat Robert Byrd"

That's quitter talk. Just take a 2X4 with a nail through it and have at it. A nice beating is just what the senile, bigoted sack of feces needs.

"That created a firestorm. Gov. Okey Patteson hurried home from a hunting trip in North Carolina. He summoned Byrd to his office in the Capitol. He asked Byrd to withdraw from the ticket."

Okey was my cousin (he passed away in 1989). I'm "pert near" the only Republican in the family.

Good idea, BUT, this should be done by WV Republicans. If outsiders get too heavy-handed and look like they're telling West Virginians how to vote they'll ensure a Byrd victory. This has to come from within.
