Write it down and post it.
Before you go insulting other FReepers with flying pigs in order to look like you are making a point...Sorry for the insult, re: "pigs flying."
It **is** however ALSO aggravating to be treated like a dim-witted four-year-old for not blindly believing questionable polls that claim show that Tom McClintock would now be Governor -- "if only" Arnold had surrendered his 60+% lead "for the good of the party."
Continuing to flog such "garbage polls" is ALSO "unbecoming of a FReeper."I will defer to your considerable experience with the "ancient history" of California politics...
...as I have only been "politically aware" here in recent years......but you need to acknowledge that Arnold is at least having SOME positive effect in his crusade against the ultra-left wackos in Sacramento...
...particularly when you see stories like THIS one......from today's www.sacbee.com:
Suddenly and mysteriously, Assembly turns pro-business
Published 2:15 am PDT Monday, June 13, 2005A peculiar thing happened early this month as the Democrat-dominated state Assembly churned toward a deadline for initial approval of its members' bills.Business lobbyists were fighting what they widely thought would be futile battles against dozens of measures being pushed by labor unions, environmentalists, consumer protection advocates and personal injury lawyers, all four of which have close ties to the Democratic majority. The union-backed measures sailed through the Assembly without a hitch, testifying to the hegemony that organized labor enjoys in the Legislature, but many of the bills backed by the other three Democratic interest groups, especially those tightening up environmental controls, mysteriously fell by the wayside. They were either held in committee, left to languish on the Assembly's file of inactive measures, amended into nothing more than symbols or in some cases defeated in Assembly votes...
-- snip --
...The Schwarzenegger measures, which probably will go before voters in a special election in November, could shift the balance of power in the Capitol, undermining the influence that unions and other liberal groups have wielded in recent years.
Business leaders, alarmed at what they view as a liberal takeover of the Capitol, are providing the tens of millions of dollars that Schwarzenegger needs to push his atmosphere-altering agenda and also backing a "paycheck protection" measure that would hinder public worker unions' ability to amass political campaign funds - one that Schwarzenegger has not yet endorsed but is being promoted by interests with close ties to the governor.
From flying pigs to blind believer, eh? Grow up. It's Gallup. They would be out of business if they didn't do reliable polling.
"if only" Arnold had surrendered his 60+% lead "for the good of the party."
Show me a 60% lead. It must be an interesting calculation.
Continuing to flog such "garbage polls" is ALSO "unbecoming of a FReeper."
Cite a source showing that Gallup is garbage polling. Cite Arnold's accomplishments. You still can't do it.
...but you need to acknowledge that Arnold is at least having SOME positive effect in his crusade against the ultra-left wackos in Sacramento...
Then give me a list of ACTIONS that substantiate your claim. The SacBee is a leftist paper. When they celebrate, I worry.
its called fairness - right now, dem or pub, all congressman are products of washington, with few competitive seats. It doesnt make it better to have fair elections in some states and not others. It is only fair to the american people to have fair district lines in all states, so that congressman can actually represent us, not special intrests.
I agree. There should be a Constitutional Amendment regarding apportionment: the perimeter a district could be no more than a mathematical constant (IMO no more than two) times the square root of the area. This permits large districts and small depending upon population, but precludes the convoluted boundaries we have seen.
The SacBee is a leftist paper.Perhaps.When they celebrate, I worry.
But the AUTHOR of that article (Dan Weintraub) is one of the sharpest political analysts that I have seen anywhere...
...with the possible exception of Torie and Common Tator on THIS forum. :o)
If he believes the assembly has turned "Pro-business," he ain't so sharp, IMO.
Still no support for your comments, eh?
Arnold is bring 3 positive intiatives forward, and has the unions after him 24/7. That is an accomplishment. He also has a veto pen, which is stopping all kinds of nonsense or will. Granted he screwed up on the public employee pension thing, which is unfortunate. To suggest that Arnold is a big muscled zero is not a fair and balanced assessment. Pity McClintock didn't have his charisma and money. And so it goes.
Arnold is bring 3 positive intiatives forward,
Given that two of those iniatives already had signature drives under way, how did he "bring them forward"?
Have you read his "financial reorg" initiative? It isn't what he says it is (as if that was news after Prop 58). Among other features, it contains new borrowing. It also contains powers which are borderline violations of Article IV of the US constitution. Powers which, in the hands of a Democrat governor, will be nothing short of disastrous.
Paycheck protection would have happened without Arnold, besides which, it's basically federal law per Communications Workers v. Beck. Had Arnold moved to "enforce the law," an iniative might have been unnecessary.
Ted Costa had the reapportionment iniative well underway before Arnold highjacked it, changed his mind, and then went back to Costa's version.
That is an accomplishment.
With not a single one of those iniatives passed yet, that's some accomplishment! Given that two of those iniatives already had signature drives under way, all you are basically saying is that he raised money and spent it. Well here's a little news: the unions have already raised $200 MILLION to fight these iniatives.
Any bets?
He also has a veto pen, which is stopping all kinds of nonsense or will.
From what I've seen he has a veto pen he's afraid to use. Give me a list of these vetos. He sure as hell signed the Sierra Nevada Conservancy bill that socialized the source of 60% of the State's water, which Davis had the sense to veto.
So how is this an improvement?
Granted he screwed up on the public employee pension thing, which is unfortunate.
And major.
To suggest that Arnold is a big muscled zero is not a fair and balanced assessment.
I agree. He's worse than zero, and your defense is borderline spin.
Arnold is a curious political figure. Posters here seem to be way out on the bell curve one way of the other about him. I rarely read a post about him that I find much to agree with regarding trying to get the balance right.
Many acts died because he was there because of the veto. I can't cite chapter and verse, but I know how nutter the legislature is. The bill to exempt illegals from having their cars impounded for driving without a license may be one of them.
By the way, what was the Costa version of reapportionment? Not that the present plan is all that pro Dem, but then you knew that too. A non partisan plan, would just put in a few more moderates and maybe more Dems net as you know.
One of the three, unless you think Darryl Issa is the reason there was a recall.
I am not an Arnold bot as you know. But let's try to be as fair as we can, if only so when he really blows it, we are not dismised as incorrigible knee jerk Arnold phobes.
If you consult the list to which I linked, you will see that in several instances I complemented Arnold. I am not "knee jerk" about the man, he's really that bad.
I rarely read a post about him that I find much to agree with regarding trying to get the balance right.
Then you need to know more about his history, his political affiliations, and his moneyed backers, but then, if you find State politics distressing to your health, doing that might be fatal. He's dirtier than Wilson ever thought of being, but then after ten years of preparation for office under the tutelage of Wilson's chief of staff, Bob White, that's hardly surprising.
The legislature rescinded SB60 after the recall (by a veto proof margin) and Arnold signed it. There would have been a referendum anyway so it is therefore no net accomplishment on Arnold's part.
Since then, Arnold has been working with Gil Cedillo to pass a bill authorizing driver licenses to illegals:
Schwarzenegger on Driver Licenses for illegal aliens during a January Interview with Univision:
Interviewer: How would you deal with more conservative members of the legislature...?
Schwarzenegger: Again, it's one of those things where we all have to get together and see that this is a good idea and this is the way to move forward. So, I am talking to my Republican friends all the time about it, and also to my Democratic friends. We will do it.
"Our staffs have met, and they're working on this together,"
said Vincent Salido, spokesman for the Republican governor
The more you know about Arnold, the more you will realize you've been had.
The one we're going to be voting on for which you credit Arnold. Costa started the signature drive immediately after the recall and designed the system with the panel of "retired judges." The signature drive managed by Costa's People's Advocate group was moving along rather nicely. Arnold came out for something rather different, dropped it when people started howling that he was undercutting Costa's bill, and then reversed himself by signing onto Costa's effort. Then Arnold took credit for the whole thing.
The more you know about Arnold...
