The Arizona Constitution requires that an appointee to a vacant seat be of the same party as the person who vacated it. The appointment is good until the next general election, in this case November 2006.

Nominate Sen. Leahy. Delay the vote. Ruin his reputation during the bickering. Make false accusations.

No need to make false accusations. Just tell the truth

Remember the charges are far more serious than the actual evidence. Democrat 101

In the first place, the nominee must be OF THE SAME PARTY as the Senator being replaced.

Whoa...I don't think you're right (unless there is some strange state-thing in AZ).

They listed Ashcroft and CMB, but they missed the rejection of John Tower by the 'Rats for Defense Secretary. This was despite the fact that he had headed the Senate Armed Services Committee before Sam Nunn (who killed the nomination), and that the deciding vote to determine that Tower was too drunk to be SecDef but not too drunk to be a Senator was Ted Kennedy.

President Bush was therefore forced to pick a nominee that was universally respected and liked, Dick Cheney! (How times have changed!)

Nominate Sen. Leahy.

He would be approved 98-0 in a show of comity by the Republicans right before the 'Rats filibustered Saad.

If Stevens didn't retire with BJ in the White House, there's no way he's going to step down willingly with Bush in there.
