It is time to stop UNDERESTIMATING McCain. We must have a candidate that can unite fiscal and social conservatives if we hope to defeat Guiliani and McCain and save our party. We must have a true conservative who will implement a Reagan esque conservative agenda.We must have a candidate with whom word and deed are one and the same.I would like to suggest that Mike Pence from Indiana is the only candidate who can be "all things to all men" in the Reagan wing of this party.

Did you see that lovely picture of Nancy Reagan laying flowers at RR's grave a year ago? Fox ran it yesterday. It brings back how much we lost when he died. The clips of RR, his speech at Normandy, he was a giant. America was so lucky to have him. Even now, the mention of his name illuminates his stature, what he accomplished in spite of the MSM. Mindboggling.

In case no one has noticed, Newt is running.

He has been scheduling appearances with organizations that can only be identified as skepticle or out-right hostile in the past. He has been wading into the lions den and answering the hard questions and promoting an agenda that most on this board would find very attractive.

If, through this long process, he should find himself at the top of the list of Republican candidates, I could think of no better candidate to be facing a Hillary Clinton.

Frankly, I think he would leave her babbling in the middle of the room while the rest of the crowd moved on.

He can't raise the money he needs.

The White House has sent word that Jeb Bush should be taken at his word, that he will not run.

While Jeb has taken himself out of the 08 race, the Bush family will seek to retain power with their newly adopted son and convert to Republican party, William Jefferson Clinton-Bush as the Republican candidate.

C'mon with Pence already. No one knows who the hell he is, and never will. Besides, when has a Congressman ever won the presidency?

We live in a celebrity culture. Hillary and McCain are celebs, and the nominations are theirs unless some other celeb, general or citizen steps up to challenge them from the right.

If McCain gets the nod this is one Republican who will consider sitting it out. Usually when I go to the polls I hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils. I don't see much of a difference between Mccain & Hillary. With Hillary you know what you have, while you can't trust McCain.

Let the RINO games begin . .

===========================

Mark McKinnon, the Austin political consultant who oversaw the advertising for President Bush in the 2000 and 2004 campaigns, has committed to help Sen. John McCain in a second presidential bid.

McKinnon - one of the president's closest friends and confidants and a frequent mountain biking companion - met with the Arizona Republican over lunch this spring in the Senate dining room to discuss his support, said a GOP activist familiar with the meeting.

At this point, McCain, who lost to Bush in a bitter 2000 Republican primary, is in the early but unmistakable stages of laying the groundwork for another campaign. And McKinnon has indicated he would review his options, should Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice or the president's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, run in 2008.
