Perhaps, the "but it was implied" direction of your posts is not so subtle or nuanced. Gettin' aclu/e seems to be in your future providence...
If that is how you handle somebody having the guts to challenge your precious little world then knock yourself out.
I tell everybody that they need to challenge their point of view so that they are sure that they are correct in their thinking. If you can't handle a little challenge then that is your problem not mine.
This clown should be prosecuted and locked up. After that they should go after Wood-Stein for accepting the information illegally.
BTW, a guy interested in a non-corrupt government shouldn't engage in unethical behavior, like leaking classified information to a reporter when he had direct access to the proper attorneys and agencies, or--here's a thought--a microphone.
It is plain that part of Felt's motivation was grievance over his job situation and part partisan.
It would have been nice if he wanted to remain anonymous he hadn't openly lied for years after the fact and well away from any threat of retaliation you might cite and actually put in writing he was not the source.
He is a deceitful and vengeful man.
Not one word I have written remotely implies a defense of Nixon.
I am an equal opportunity challenger. That is how issues are fleshed out. Plain and simple plain talk.
Hey #44 deserves a well done atta boy.
I will agree with you on the vengeful part. But, I think that he honestly felt that the FBI was being compromised also. Because he got passed by for the Director of the FBI just made it easier for him to justify leaking that info.
The advantage was in the media coverage. Yes, when their backs were to the wall they had to report investigations and various other matters that happened publicly enough they were forced to do so.
But then the mitigating began and the endless polls assuring the "American people" that they didn't care. Also the portrayal of the critics was always less than admiring. In fact, accusers and critics were constantly vilified and denigrated.
What happens is when a Republican is the subject, the media hypes and exaggerates (witness various stories about President GW Bush and on back to his father, Reagan and of course Nixon). With democrats it is constant minimizing and explaining away.
"or the record......what WAS Felt's religious denomination?"
Who cares? People aren't always driven by religous affiliation and even those who claim to be faithful aren't.
They both do an excellent job of explaining away.
Why did Clinton have to surrender his law license? Why did he have to admit he lied under oath as part of his deal with Ray to avoid an indictment?
I'll wait.
You are correct. Leslie Stahl was on Hardball tonight (incidentally, she revealed she was dating Woodward at the time) and she pointed out admiringly and in a tone of agreement that Chris then also adopted, that Felt had made statements that conveyed a sense that he considered the Nixon administration as Nazi-like.
Yes, she used the word "Nazi".
Obviously you missed the part where Nixon asked the FBI for their secret files and they refused to give them to him.
That's when Patrick Gray got the nod as head of the bureau.
Are you one of the ones who believes the FBI should be able to keep secret files on people and not share them with the head of this country?
He didn't help smoke Nixon because of any political party. The reasons he did it to Nixon are pretty clear.
You like to "challenge" but what do you do when confronted with evidence that refutes your premise?
Apparently you ignore or deny.
Facts matter.
"Are you one of the ones who believes the FBI should be able to keep secret files on people and not share them with the head of this country?"
That is a good question. I think it needs to addressed on a case by case basis. For example if the President is under suspicion then no I don't think he should get it. The president is not the all encompassing ruler either. He is a political person. The FBI is not suppose to be political. It is a judgement call. But, if the courts asked for it then they shouldn't definitely be given it, because they are a check against the FBI and the executive branch.
flesh out issues? You liberal twerps come in here to "flesh out issues". ha ha ha ha
You need Free Republic newbie 101. Since you brought up Clinton, go read alamo-girl's downside legacy. http://www.alamo-girl.com/
You should have been around in 1998. This place was hopping. Seems there were many liberals then whining about Linda Tripp. Those same weenies are probably praising Felt. Such partisan silliness. The law is the law. Everyone should be accountable - including Bill Clinton. Nixon did the honorable thing and resigned. Clinton was a selfish porkface.
I'll put you down under the "Favors Situational Ethics" column.
You should have seen me give them crap about their stance on abortion.
