There is nothing in this world that is starkly black and white...

If you are using the standard color scheme in your web browser, the very sentence that you wrote uses a black font and a white background. So yes, there are some things in this world that are starkly black and white. Your sentence is a concrete example. :-)

No, the type and the background aren't "black and white". They are combinations of colors or the absense of color. It is varying grades of these shades that we call black or white.
