1. A person is not obliged to enter into a 401K or an IRA retirement plan as is with SS, at the point of as gun. They are entirely voluntary and are somewhat controlled by the investor (although generally limited to certain criteria).
2. There is no law that says a company has to provide a retirement policy to any employee. That said, companies set up these retirement policies as "perks" which are un-taxed and probably are beneficial to the bean counters. But most of all, the retirement plan is of of the last vestages of paying someone more than they are worth and yet paying for it later. Only medical coverage is a worst investment. Yes, there is no law (yet) that a company has to provide medical coverage other that "workman's comp".
3. It has come to fruitition that large companies, based on promises by union negotiators of promised larger production outputs with equally larger investments by the companies to ease worker "strain", has yielded a loss in revenue aimed at the comfort of those seeking a secure retirement.
4. What happens then? Well, your govment, which can't handle a budget for lunch at McDonalds, has decided (with union help) that it will GUARANTEE your companie's retirement plan (not 401K or IRA). Now, let me explain that your government DOES NOT MAKE MONEY!!! When they "guarantee something that means the taxPAYERS have to foot the bill.

5. Now, taxPAYERS not only have to work harder for their own retirement plans, but now have to support some losers who couldn't keep a job except for the "union". Ya wanna talk HEALTHCARE now? Ask Hitlary, boy, does she have a plan for you.

6. The bottom line is...Companies shoudn't promise more than they can deliver, and the government should stay the F#&^K out of it. Let the market decide.

Definitely up in the Enron retirement or Ponzi pyramid scheme range of risk. Here is a site with some great Soviet propaganda posters in favor of "Socialist Security", Comrades! Titles like "Not Our Money" and "We're Too Stupid [to run our own affairs]:

I don't quite know how to use html tags to get these to show up in posts but you won't regret clicking on the link, Comrades! :)

WHO KILLED AESOP?

The Grasshopper and the Ants is a non-theological lesson.

Why did the Commies take it out of our schools?
