UNNNGH!
LOL, that or "Scarmable"
At least the SUV didn't "explose".
I know it well. Funny thing, never had any problems with my SUV there ...
It's one way down hill. Not closed at all. Very definitely open.
I'm surprised the transmission fluid wasn't pooled on the radiator.
Don't know how long you've been on FR, but the basic rule around here is this: Only bad things happen to Cali and specifically SF, and they are always well deserved.
It gets old really fast, especially when you find out it's coming from someone who lived in a state where culture means pig races. But heaven forbid you say anything bad about a 'red state'.
The fact that the driver was atourist doesn't surprise me in the least. Some of L.A's worst driver's tend to have plates from other states on their cars.
Oh, yes -- drum brakes. I still shudder. I didn't mind driving up -- but down was a scary proposition. We lived in the Thousand Oaks section and The Arlington was an easier way up, or down, the hill (although a little out of the way).
Ouch! (your pic)
It's the same one from post 52.
Yeah but it has a funny caption.

Moral of the story: Don't drive in San Francisco one foot more than you have to. Between BART, Muni and cabs, you can get pretty much anywhere you want or need to go. The locals are used to driving up and down sheer cliffs. You are not.
Here endeth the lesson.
They must have never implemented the change. The people that lived on that street complained of all of the traffic due to tourists and they wanted it closed to through traffic. I thought they had done it ( closed it off).
Lombard isn't the steepest street either. A street or two south is. I believe it is a 30% grade!
Go up the other side of the hill (west side) and turn left to go down to the bay-boy are those steep too!
Sure you could.
From Hertz slot you make a stop to sign for the car, turn left, turn right, go through the light by the United freight terminal, turn right next light, turn right again and zoom ... you are on 101 N to San Fran. IF ya hit the lights right getting off 101, you arrive at Lombard with some SERIOUSLY overheated rear brakes.
Truth is, I don't believe this guy's story. He screwed up and rolled his rental on Lombard -- goofy tourist tricks.
